Mets ace Johan Santana has been crowned the top hurler in the National League for the month of April. Santana has National League leading lowest ERA, which is at 1.10. His record is 3-1 but it could very well be 4-0 had it not been for a two-run error by Daniel Murphy.
According to MLB.com, this is Santana’s seventh monthly award. He snagged another one last September when he was 4-0 with a 1.83 ERA. That was also the month when he pitched on short rest and was lights out in the Mets post-season bid that fell short again.
It’s a well-deserved award for a pitcher who has been the only constant on a Mets pitching staff that only now is starting to come around. He was the only Mets starter who consistently pitched deep into games and allowed only two runs or fewer in his first six starts.
