I know this isn’t a football blog, but big news is big news in the sports world. John Madden, former Monday Night Football analyst and most recently on Sunday Night Football on NBC, has cooked his last turducken on broadcast television.
The Super Bowl-winning ex-coach has decided to call it quits after more than 40 years in and around the sport. No word yet on whether his namesake football video game will continue.
Unfortunately, Madden’s become a caricature of himself, so it’s a good thing he’s retiring. He’s been much derided and lampooned over the past few years for his no-duh commentary on those Monday and Sunday night games. It’s a shame for someone who has been such an integral part of professional football for decades.
Are you sad to see him go or do you think it’s time?
Word is that Cris Collinsworth will take over for him on Sunday Night Football.
Now if ESPN Sunday Night Baseball’s John Miller would just follow Madden’s lead.
