So, now that it’s official, what are your thoughts? Do you think he’ll be a worthwhile contributor or a waste of space?
If he could add a couple of wins then it was worth it
I think Omar needs his head examined. I’m sure Sheffield will be a great influence with the young players. He brings such a positive attitude. Ecspecially if he is sitting on the bench and not playing. Just what the Mets need, another over the hill past his prime player. Hey Omar, I think Bernie Williams is still out there.
Sheffield is the prototypical clubhouse distraction. If 2 days go by and he sits he whines and sets himself apart from the team. He also wants another contract for next year. Is Minaya dumb enough to give him one ?
I think it was a good deal. I would not have said so if he were paid more but for $400,000, he’s a bargain scrap heap retrieval project. He could be this year’s Fernando Tatis. If he starts whining or appears to be a boat anchor, Omar can ditch him without losing much.
If the Phillies had picked him up, and that appears to have been a possibility, Mets fans would be yelling that the Phillies outmaneuvered Omar.
