- Nick Evans is giving Jerry Manuel and the rest of the Mets coaching staff second thoughts about sending him to the minors so he can get more routine work with his Spring Training performance, which includes coming in second to Daniel Murphy with the most RBI and two home runs, according to Newsday.com.
- MLB.com reported Saturday that Jose Reyes has a lot of work to do to get back into fine hitting form. He’s only had 21 at bats in the spring and Reyes himself says he needs to find his timing again.
- John Maine’s scheduled test drive of his curve ball was kept in the pitching garage in yesterday’s win vs. the Marlins. He opted to push it off until Friday’s start against the Orioles, according to MLB.com.
- Fifth-starter contender Tim Redding has been shut down indefinitely due to what the Mets are describing as soreness and lack of strength in his pitching arm. This leaves the competition open among Livan Hernandez, who pitched well on Saturday, Freddy Garcia, who had a shaky start on Friday, and rookie Jonathan Niese.
