Surgery sidelines Pagan again

March
11

For the second consecutive season, outfielder Angel Pagan will be out of commission due to an injury, this time because of a bone spur in his right elbow, according to MLB.com. His return and availability is expected sometime in May.

Pagan was battling with Jeremy Reed and some others for one of the outfield positions. He showed some promise by hitting almost .500 in his first 15 at-bats in Spring Training.

Pagan was a bright spot in 2008, with a .275 batting average, before a torn labrum in his left shoulder forced him to have surgery and waylaid him for the rest of the year.

It’s a shame but at least he’ll have good chance of returning by May but loses opportunity to make the club out out of spring training which means he’ll have hard time getting to the majors unless injury or poor performance derails another outfielder – especially bench player. Two years in a row derailed by injury necessitating surgery.
