Coming off pitching three scoreless innings against the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic on Saturday, former Mets ace Pedro Martinez said Monday he still would like to pitch for the Mets.
“Yeah, I would like to be back [with the Mets],” Martinez told MLB.com. “But I’m not just going to follow the Mets. They have their own plans and they have their own thought process. “Yes, I would love to go [to Citi Field] and hopefully have the same success I had at Shea. Shea was a great stadium for me. I hope the new Shea pretty much follows up on the old one.”
But Martinez insists he has plenty left in his tank and is also keeping the door open for other teams to help him fulfill what he describes as his life goals.
With concerns about the health of Mike Pelfrey and Johan Santana, the effectiveness of John Maine who has struggled early in Spring Training, and the question about the fifth starter, do you think the Mets should start seriously considering re-signing Martinez?
