Pete Abraham is covering for us at the GM meetings in California. Oliver Perez was one of the topics of conversation yesterday. Omar Minaya didn’t sound hopeful of getting anything done before Nov. 14 when the exclusive-rights period comes to an end, nor should he with Scott Boras as the agent. Boras held court and basically said he figures there will be significant interest in the lefty.
So what do you think? Should the Mets make an all-out pitch to retain him? For all his inconsistency, he does have a lot of talent. And he’s only 27. Personally, I’m not big on giving pitchers more than four years. Too fragile. What would be a fair offer, though?
