Should the Mets have taken their time?

My colleague Sam Borden raised an interesting point in today’s Journal News.
He believes the Mets were too hasty in removing the interim tag from Jerry Manuel, who, after all, was on the bench for a second straight collapse in September. Sam says the Mets fans “deserved more than a rush.”
Give the column a read and then let us know what you think. You can just as easily argue that the Mets needed to move forward as quickly as possible. Both are very fair arguments.

The decision to bring back Manuel wasnt rushed. He has been evaluated since he replaced Willie.
Omar has been looking at who is available and who he would want as manager throughout the course of the season. To think he didnt think about what to do with manager until the end of the season is ludicrous.
And to think Manuel wouldnt be offered a job somewhere else is ridiculous. If the Mets make him wait, he doesnt come back. Is there any coach on the playoff teams the Mets would have considered? If not, why wait? We know what Valentine and Showalter have done… and neither is a Minaya Yes Man type of guy.
