At www.LoHud.com and in The Journal News today, there’s the story of Jerry Manuel going from interim manager to manager. The Mets finally confirmed a finalized deal a little after 10 last night. The fate of the coaches is up next. Their contracts are all up on Oct. 31.
“My policy is that the manager and the general manager get together and we select the coaches together,” Omar Minaya said the other day. “As a whole, the manager pretty much picks most of his staff. There are some times that there are some key situations that we have to agree upon them. It’s a mutual understanding.”
Dan Warthen came up from Triple-A to become the pitching coach when Manuel took over for Willie Randolph and Rick Peterson got fired. The pitchers seemed to like dealing with Warthen. But overall we’ll see who stays, who goes and who comes aboard.
There’s a conference call scheduled with the media for 1 p.m. today with Manuel and Minaya. So we’ll also see if anything of note comes out of it besides “happy to be back” and “happy to have him back.”
Also, there’s an arrest warrant out for Ambiorix Burgos in the Dominican over the hit-and-run Tuesday that killed two women. And Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek will be doing Mariano Rivera’s shoulder surgery on Tuesday. He also did Jorge Posada’s shoulder surgery during the season.

What does everybody think of these ideas. First trade Delgado and a couple of decent prospects, (not martinez or niese, mabye Heilman)for Soria, so you have a closer, then trade Wright and Niese to San Diego for Peavy and Bell. Make Murphy a third basema again so he can play his natural position. Then to replace the holes in the offense created by losing Wright and Delgado, sign Manny for left field, and Texiera for first. If you did not resign Perez, Alou, Pedro or El Duque the payroll will be about the same mabye a little more but you would have a real bullpen a great rotation with three potential aces and a lineup that would be the change the Mets need and will probably be a little more clutch than last year.
My Ideas …. thanks for playing …. next.
I’m with roksolid, I don’t understand why people want to blow this team up, and they usually want to deal a high salary guy to a market that’s half their payroll…this might be crazy, but hear me out. Keep the core guys, sign or trade for a closer, shore up the bullpen, add a starter, and maybe get an LF or 2B…pretty nuts….Seriously though, I think we need a new 3B coach, we haven’t had a good one in a while, save Sandy.
All the coaches should be fired. Start over completely with the coaching staff.
