The Cubs were going to start Carlos Zambrano for an inning or two tomorrow but have decided it wasn’t worth it. Instead, as you can read in this AP story, Lou Pinella has tabbed Angel Guzman, a failed prospect who was called up on Sept. 1, to pitch against the Brewers. (Guzman was considered the top prospect in the Cubs system five years ago by Baseball America.) The story says Guzman has appeared in five games (all Cubs losses) and has a 7.04 ERA.
Big Z will pitch Game 2 of the NLDS on Thursday, and it was his choice to work on the side tomorrow. Pinella said he will start his regulars, but probably pitch no one more than two innings.
