The big-game stylings of Johan Santana were in full effect last night, as he tossed a career-high 125 pitches in eight innings to beat the Cubbies. Jose Reyes and David Wright were the offensive heroes, as the Mets remained a game in front of the Brew Crew and moved to 1 1/2 in back of the Phils.
The Mets hope to save Santana on Sunday, but they may very well throw the kitchen sink at the Marlins to do so. The club has yet to announce a starter for Saturday and all indications are it will be a game pitched by committee. This notebook also has news on Fred Wilpon, an extension for Omar Minaya, Damion Easley and Carlos Beltran.

Josh,
With rain in the forecast for tomorrow (Thursday) night, do you know if the Mets have given any thought to making Thursday night’s game against the Cubs a day game to avoid the possibility of having to play a makeup game on Monday (the day after the scheduled last regular season game ever at Shea)?
