Well, this was not a good way to open the trip. Jerry Manuel said it was just a bad game in so many ways. Start with one run and one hit in seven innings against John Lannan, who was charged with five runs and eight hits in three innings last Wednesday in Queens.
David Wright hit into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded in the eighth, down 7-2. He said he was just overaggressive and chased a pitch.
After Bobby Parnell pitched a 1-2-3 bottom half, Manuel said, “I’ve got to give him another look. I’ve got to find another spot.” Pedro said he had trouble with the hard mound, his command and Laz Diaz’s strike zone, but he said that was no excuse about the strike zone.
Manuel was asked before the game about the wild card, and he said it’s just important to get in, doesn’t matter how.
So Mike Pelfrey gets the ball in game two of this series. And the lead is just a half game. How many out there are worried?
That’s it from the ballpark.
