Tatis out for the year
The Mets have lost Fernando Tatis for the rest of the season because of a separated right shoulder. Tatis was injured during the fifth inning of tonight’s game against Washington at Nationals Park. Odalis Perez hit a sinking liner to left. Tatis came racing in and reached down, but the ball skipped by him and he fell hard on the shoulder. Perez had a double, and Tatis left the game. Rookie Nick Evans came in to replace him, and Evans was eventually replaced by Endy Chavez in the seventh. Jerry Manuel had been playing Tatis over Evans in left against lefty starters of late because of his experience. Tatis came into the game batting .299 with 11 homers and 47 RBI.
