It’s still raining hard here at Shea closing in on 7:30. They announced to the fans that the weather could improve and they still hope to play. But who knows? It seems to be raining on a lot of these early-evening games tonight. The Phillies were supposed to play at home tonight against the Brewers, but that game has already been postponed.
The Phillies did win, though. They took the coin flip today against the Mets regarding a one-game playoff. If the two teams haven’t both clinched at least the wild card and are tied for first at the end of 162 games, the one-game tiebreaker to decide the NL East title will be at Citizens Bank Park. If they’ve both clinched a spot in October and are tied, the Mets would be the champs because they took the season series 11-7.
Pregame, besides Brian Schneider being scratched with bursitis in his left knee (doesn’t sound serious) and Ramon Castro being activated, Scott Schoeneweis said Billy Wagner already knows that his 2010 $8 million option won’t be picked up by the Mets. That wouldn’t be a shock. Wagner said in the New York Post today that he was finished as a Met, so obviously he doesn’t feel he can make it back next September from his Tommy John surgery.
