That was some shot Dukes just hit off Pelfrey, but we’re early. The Mets are three games up and four in the lost column as we speak because Florida beat Philadelphia 7-3.
Anyway, much of the pregame talk centered around Carlos Delgado and Jose Reyes.
Jerry Manuel and Reyes were marveling at this awesome tear Delgado has been on.
But maybe more interesting is the Reyes situation. He hit .205 as we recall last September, as much a reason for the collapse as anyone.
Then he just went 0 for the Phillies series and was at .167 (5 for 30) to start this September despite two hits in the series opener against the Nationals. But he basically just vowed to us there won’t be a repeat:
“I didn’t have a big September last year, so this year I think is the year,†Reyes said. “I don’t have to worry any more about what happened last year because we’re still in good position now. So I think it’s going to be a big September last year, not just for me but for everybody.â€
The Mets need those not to be empty words because he’s so important to the cause.
Do you think he’s going to have a good month by the time it’s over? He says he feels better now than he did at this time last year. There has been a lot to like about his year. And he seems to love playing for Manuel.
