I’ve been here since 10:20 Sunday morning, it’s now 1:18 Monday morning in the press box. Not complaining, didn’t have to play 18 innings, just interview, think, type and watch baseball. What could be better?
Anyway Jerry Manuel said he was feeling bittersweet after winning the second game. The sweet had to do with Carlos Delgado’s continued MVP-type second half (65 RBI in his last 65, a major-league-best 22 homers since June 27) and getting back up after the Game 1 loss and salvaging the finale to take the two-game lead with 19 to play. The bitter really had to do with Billy Wagner. Manuel said the closer would probably be out for the remainder of the year after aggravating his elbow throwing between games. But the Mets hope to know his status for sure after he’s examined later today. The players didn’t seem fazed. And there are 22-11 since Wagner last pitched on Aug. 2.
David Wright talked about how he loves the resiliency of the team.
And here was Delgado’s view on the Mets’ chances:
“We think we’re as good as anybody. We think we’re the team to beat. We think that what happened last year is not going to happen again. We’re very confident that we can get this done. There’s definitely a different atmosphere here, a different feeling than there was last year.”
Is he the NL MVP if the Mets win this thing? What do you think?

No question the MVP! Although Santana hasn’t lost in a while, he’s in the running too.
I expect more out of DWright. That strike out with the bases loaded was just awful. Great play in the field though in the 9th, but goodness, he’s starting to look like A-Rod in these pressure situations.
