All about the Mets

Third-inning stretch, take two

September
7

The Mets needed to get off to a good start in this second game, strange to see Hamels this shaky so far through three. Wonder if leaving the bases loaded with one out in the second will come back to haunt the Mets. David Wright admitted between games that he has been pressing with runners in scoring position, and then he fanned again.

The home run Santana allowed in the third made Ryan Howard the first Phillies player with three straight 40-homer seasons. That’s the 23rd homer Santana has served up in 30 starts.

That was No. 463 for Delgado, No. 32 for the season. Who would’ve thought back in May that he would have had that many? Raise your hand. I can’t raise my hand for that.

For those who wanted to know what Pedro had to say for himself after allowing six runs and seven hits over four innings in Game 1:
“It’s disappointing, of course. But I’d feel really aggravated and disappointed if I didn’t try hard enough. But everything I had today, I left it out there for my team. Nobody can second guess my intentions out there. … They were better today.

“It’s been two or three years since I came down in velocity. I’m trying to make adjustments still. I do well sometimes, but sometimes I have my struggles.”

He also said it was his job to pick up his fielders after their defensive struggles in that first game (i.e. Fernando Tatis probably should’ve had Greg Dobbs’ double in the two-run second, and there was that Jimmy Rollins RBI double that fell between Nick Evans and Jose Reyes in the four-run fourth).
