Greetings Mets fans. This is Brian Heyman, here in the press box at Shea, ready for what Jerry Manuel just called “the biggest series of the year.”
Here were a few pregame tidbits:
Billy Wagner threw in the bullpen with a hitter standing at the “plate” without a bat. He said he still felt something in the elbow, but there has been progress over the last week and a half. He said the Mets are shooting for a Tuesday return when the Nats come to open a series, but that a Friday return here against the Braves would be better. Manuel wouldn’t guarantee that he would return as the closer if he didn’t get in a rehab game, saying he would probably work him back in, possibly in the eighth.
Interestly, Manuel also wouldn’t guarantee Wagner would remain the closer if he got back in the role and started looking shaky.
Pedro is still a go for tomorrow, but it’s supposed to rain. Maybe another day of rest couldn’t hurt—if there’s a Sunday doubleheader instead—since he couldn’t get loose last Sunday at Friday and had to come back to NY to work with a trainer.
Manuel said Ramon Castro is pain free in the quad and should be able to return when he’s eligible next Thursday. And he said John Maine is a ways a way. Counting on him with the bone spur in the shoulder may be asking for a lot at this point.
Enjoy the game.

No offense to you Brian, but you must be the 5th or 6th guy to be hosting here in a few weeks. Which has ruined this blog.
Josh was doing good following Abraham’s methodology but this constant change in style doesn’t work.
Sadecki: See you on Delcos’ site…
