Today in The Journal News

The Mets scored six runs in the first and never let go, sweeping the Brewers to finish a 6-2 road trip. They moved three games ahead of Philly in the NL East with a showdown looming at Shea.

Ryan Church had the biggest hit, a grand slam in the first. It was his first home run since June 1. The notebook also has updates on Billy Wagner, Dan Murphy and his fall destination, and more.

Castillo gone with Murphy taking over 2b next yr? I’ll believe it when I see Mets toss away 18MM or so b/c that is what they will have to do to get rid of Castillo.

Mets sweep Phils and they are up 6 with 19 games remaining.

    Sound familar?

Scoop: I doubt that will happen, but even if it did, doesn’t this seem like a different team then last year’s team? This team is playing with a purpose and determination that I haven’t seen since 2006. I’m confident that they wouldn’t blow a lead that big again. Am I confident that they will hold on to the 3 game lead that they have now? Of course not! I’m a Met fan!!!

I was just pointing out that it is feasible that Mets could be in just about the same position as last yr if they were able to sweep. I doubt they will sweep; hope for 2 of 3.

But w/this Hanna coming up the coast, they might only play 2. If so, they’d have to make up game the day after season if it is needed. How nerve racking would that be?

My confidence level is better than last yr simply b/c this team seems to be able to absorb the bad games and the commander of the ship does not say “all is well, remain calm” in every interview which seemed to trickle down to the players and their attitudes.

However, that BP is still scary even though they have 15 scoreless and you have Pedro that might not be able to finish the season and a rookie SP. Other than that, things are great…wink wink

Scoop: If the Saturday game is rained out I would be shocked if it wasn’t rescheduled as a day/night DH on Sunday.

And yes, while the bullpen is still scary, i’m finding out everyone else’s is too!

They could try a day/nite DH, but even if the storm has passed I wonder if the field will allow a game to be played earlier enough to accomodate the 8pm game for those bozos on ESPN.
