Ross does have real good numbers against Pelfrey, I give him that.

But he is far from a good player. If not for the Marlins, he would be in AAA.

Check the numbers:

Mets 77-61
Marlins 70-68 7GB

Last time i checked thos are the only numbers that should matter to a player in the midst of a pennant race. Anything else is a selfish losing mentality.

JB: Pedro can't work days in a row and he can't warm up quickly enough to be a reliever. If anything, Maine assuming he is healthy, should be the guy to go to the pen.

Assume Maine ever comes back, why not throw pedro in the pen...he could be closer or a set up man...i feel a lot better about him coming in to get 3 outs even with inherited runners than i do about him starting games now. He's the 5th best starting pitcher on this team (again, assuming the return of maine).

I still think it's riddiculous to think that Reyes and Milledge's antics "fired up" the Marlins any more the end of last year and miraculously made them play better. If it were that easy, then the Mets would have easily won the Friday night game that Perez pitched. The Mets lost that Sunday because Glavine was lousy and the offense didn't take advantage of early scoring opportunities given to them by Willis.

This is why the Mets have to put distance between themselves and the fillies now. The last week we get cubs and fish. They get DC and Atl. If its close at the end Mets are at a severe disadvantage.

Mike Jacobs would be the catcher for the New Orleans Zephyrs right now if Pedro and buddies didn't stick up for him and get him to stay on the team for his '05 hot streak that to this day is the reason he is a major leaguer.

Cody Ross is a middling 28 yr old 4th OFer whos enjoyed 2 good seasons in a row here, and will probably never be heard from again by 2010.

These 2 really need to stop all the trash-talking and banter they put together until a) they win something or b) they becomes legitimate major leaguers. Cody Ross says the "check the numbers" in response to Pelf's claim he did him a favor by hitting him: I did. You have a .319 OBP this year. That's horrid.

Cody Ross needs to STFU.

That is all.

Ditto for Mike Jacobs and Scott Olson.

I'll take this quiet moment to ask my age old baseball question....Why do fans boo the throwover to 1st base when the opposition does it but remain unaffected by the home team's throwover?

That irks me more than anything, perhaps even the same exact reaction to the intentional walk!

I felt the same way last year and the outcome hasn't changed my stance on it:

If the Mets need teams to be unmotivated and lay down for them to win and make it to the playoffs, then they don't deserve to be there in the first place.

Whatever. Just hit and run and catch and throw and pitch and see who is the best team.

It's pretty clear we're brawling at some point during that series. Lets just hope a) mets have clinched the division the previous series against the Cubs and b) Sandy Alomar is ready to get his revenge because we can't afford any of our starters getting hurt for post season play.
