Mike C, what are your other choices?

Texiera-given Yanks not making playoffs and something like 80MM coming off books, it would seem that Mets have only slim chance for him

other FAs-it looks like a pretty sad lot after Texiera

Some rookies-Carp, Evans, Murphy-maybe you could take the chance but w/only 2 know middle of the order bats (Beltran, Wright and maybe Church), you risk having offense really droping off

Trade-what can Mets possibly trade for a middle of the order bat? I don't see much that would land them a big time RBI guy. And even if they did trade someone or several guys, it is not as if they have much in the minors to replace those parts.

It would seem that the best choice from a cost ($$ and not trading away other parts that cause other holes), although it does come w/the age risk, is Delgado.

Plus, Delgado would be playing for another contract next yr. He might surprise.

And if Church can be the player he was in April/May or something close to it, a Delgado of diminished skills still could be ok.

I'd give him one more year. Tex is a pipe dream IMO and it allows Omar to focus on reeling in the pitching, figuring out LF, fixing the bullpen etc.

Option on Delgado... baaaad idea.

Bad bad bad.

Every time you roll the dice on age, the odds increase on rolling craps like the Yankees have this year.

Nice June-on, sure, but another year of age on that frame and April-May becomes April-May-June-July.

Let him go DH somewhere as he really should've been doing for years.
