UPDATE, 7:15 p.m.: Mets vs. Astros as the Metsies go for the split. Mike Pelfrey vs. Brian Moehler.
The Mets are just 1/2 games up on the Phils, who are on ESPN tonight.
UPDATE, 7:30 p.m.: Carlos Delgado’s home run gave the Mets 111 1st-inning runs this season, the most in all of baseball. I’m going to try to find out how many runs they’ve scored in the 7-8-9th innings combined. I bet it isn’t many more than 111.
UPDATE, 8:18 p.m.: I believe in closely monitoring the workload of young pitchers, but Mike Pelfrey is making it awfully hard on the Mets. He looks as strong as ever. He’s getting ground balls and he’s throwing strikes. With John Maine gone, maybe for the season, and Pedro Martinez a constant question mark, I don’t know how they can turn away from Pelfrey every fifth day.
UPDATE, 10:13 p.m.: Two complete games in a row for Pelfrey??? He sure is blossoming into one of the best ground-ball pitchers in baseball. A Brandon Webb-lite perhaps?
Pelfrey needed 108 pitches to finish it, just like he needed 108 pitches to finish last Wednesday against Atlanta. That’s two games and an average of 12 pitches/inning. Even Greg Maddux would’ve taken that in his prime.
If your a Met fan, let me know what you think:
— A) With the way he’s going, do you want to keep pitching Pelfrey every five days and forget about the long-term consequences?
— B) Do you think Manuel should’ve pulled him with the lead what it was?
