Pregame, Mets vs. Astros, Game 2

Posted by: Josh Thomson - Posted in Uncategorized on Aug 23, 2008

Luis Castillo will not be activated today. He spoke with Jerry Manuel just before we met with the manager. Manuel said Castillo said he needed a few extra days to get up to speed. He didn’t want to join a team that was playing so well if he didn’t think he was ready. Manuel respected the decision.

Ryan Church will start again tonight. But there was other news.

Manuel said he and Dan Werthen would monitor John Maine closely tonight. They will consider skipping him at some point if they have options (after Sept. 1) and they think he needs it.

Manuel also confirmed that he and Werthen had discussions about skipping Pelfrey’s start in Florida but hadn’t decided anything yet. … I’m telling you folks, this inning count will be an issue from here on out. Sabermetrics is here to stay.

Anyway, here is the lineup:

7 Reyes, SS
4 A. Reyes, 2B
5 Wright, 3B
21 Delgado, 1B
15 Beltran, CF
28 Murphy, LF
19 Church, RF
23 Schneider, C
33 Maine, RHP

damn sabermetrics dorks and their lame desire to “find stuff out” by “checking numbers” and arguing from their moms’ basements with their “facts” and “objective analysis.”

Its not about sabermetrics, its about research, and studying history. It’s a proven fact rookie pitchers suffer when pitching more than they’ve EVER done before in their career.
Its like training to be a marathon runner. Your not going to start right off the bat running 50 miles. Your gonna start with 5, then 10, then 15 miles, and then eventually you can do the 50 without hurting yourself.

Its not a bad thing to learn, research, study, and acquire information that will help you not hinder you in achieving your goals.

well said, benny. I hope my sarcasm came through. =)
