Pregame, Mets vs. Astros, Game 1

August
22

This is Josh Thomson here. I have the day off today, but I’ll be back at Shea tomorrow. In the meantime the similarly-named Jake Thomases is in for tonight.

Jake will join you later. Until then here’s the Met lineup tonight:

7 Reyes, SS

4 A. Reyes, 2B

5 Wright, 3B

21 Delgado, 1B

15 Beltran, CF

28 Murphy, LF

19 Church, RF

23 Schneider, C

57 Santana, P

Notes: Robinson Cancel was sent down to make room for Church. … Luis Castillo will be activated tomorrow. Who will the Mets send down? Is it Argenis Reyes? Manuel said it could be a pitcher. … Enjoy the game.

Hopefully Church can pick up where he left off.

I’m ready to send down Joe Smith

I don’t like the idea of sending down Brian Stokes or any relief pitcher for that matter. The thing is whoever the Mets send down will be right back up with the team in 9 days. So the key for management is to figure out who they need most from now till Sept 1st. I would say you gotta keep as many guys in the bullpen as possible. The hitting has been doing well as of late, so sending down Argenis Reyes, to me is the right call. I think that’s why he’s in the lineup tonight as well. Thoughts???

Whoever gets sent down, it’s only for a week. I doubt they would carry 3 second basemen in the postseason. So, if you send down Reyes, you could still have Smith for the playoffs and if Castillo isn’t playing well because of his knees maybe they could DL him again to get Reyes on the roster.
