About Yesterday ….

August
19

Yesterday is why the Mets are the Mets. They were on the verge of a perfect 7-0 roadtrip, but just like that the bats went to sleep and the bullpen resurfaced as an issue.

John Maine and Duaner Sanchez have health issues and Carlos Delgado is back in a funk. Hopefully, it won’t be as long as the last one.

6-1 trip. Maybe once in a while you need to tip the hat to the other guys. They could have layed down and died but they didn’t. Winning 3 of 4 on the road away in a series is great. And the Mets pen problems resurfaced? They never went away.

PS: Tell your webmaster to go back to the old format.

  3. John Delcos

No doubt. That’s what a lot of the players said. Pirates played them tough and had a lot to do with them leaving all those runners in scoring position. ... Tell me what you don’t like about the new format.-JD

  4. Steve (The Original)

There are very few teams that go 7-0 on roadtrips. Like I said yesterday, the Pirates were 33 and 28 at home going into this series which isn’t too shabby. And even though the Mets had their opportunities let’s not forget that Paul Maholm has been a very good pitcher this year and has an ERA that would be second on the Mets starting rotation.

and today is why the media is the media, harping on a trip where the mets went 6-1. give them a break.

  6. Roger

I def don’t like the header, and the colors are bad.. The old one was much, much better.

PS: I liked on the old one that you could see the recent comments without having to click on the article.

Jason: It is not that they lost, but how they lost. Not hitting w/RISP and the bullpen have been problems all year. They spoiled what could have been a perfect trip and served as a reminder of this team’s Achilles Heel.-JD

I like this format – neat, clear and very professional.

However, I think it’s like a ‘loaner’ when your real car is in for service – right?

  9. Jason

JD – fair enough. But the first 6 games doesnt negate anything?

  10. Jason

and this new page feels kinda… naked. i guess we’re all just used to pages with ads upon ads upon ads lol. clutter it up a little bit. its too clean and streamlined lol.

  11. Stillsane

This format looks like the default format that you start with before you personalize it. Without looking at the content, this blog could be about anything. As Annie said, I hope this is a “loaner”.

  12. Ray Sadecki

This page is neater than the old one, but I liked seeing the last few posts on threads without going in too. I am sure you will get some ads here, but please, no guiseppe franco !!!!

Regarding the Mets, Even if they do make the playoffs, how far can they go with a pen like this? Bring up Niese and put Maine in the pen. They have to try something different, and I dont think Ayala is the answer. Its a good thing Pedro is coming around or they wouldnt even have that option.

  14. TJ

I would also give Parnell a shot. I was looking at some splits from his time in AA and AAA this season and it seems like he is very solid for at least the first two innings of his outings and mostly gets touched up the 2nd or 3rd times through the lineup. Sounds ideal for relief work to me.

  15. Franco

I don’t think they deserved that little shot by you JD. They went 6-1 on the trip. LaRoache was gonna get a hold of one eventually. Sanchez is a serious concern and i think he should get DL’d and Maine moved to the pen. Give Niese a turn every 5th day. Hopefully Ayala can get back to his pre-injury form.

Now time for them to take care of business at home against teams they can and should beat

  16. Tiffany

I play for the Mets. The team is 28-29 when I play, but 40-28 when I don’t. Who am I?

  17. Tiffany

As for the new format, it’s crying out for that plaid shirt…

  18. Ski

    Tiffany,
    Who is Daimon Easley?

  19. Mike F

I’m very happy with the 6-1 road trip, but I want to ask why if left handers are hitting 417 against Stokes would you bring him in to face 2 left handers, Doumit & Laroche. Result tied ballgame. Maybe they don’t have that inf. in the dugout.

  20. Ray Sadecki

Tiffany. I say its castillo. It could be Church. Most likely somebody who played a lot under Willie and Who has been out under the new regime.

  21. Tiffany

    Yes, it’s Ryan Church.

As for Castillo, the Mets are 31-37 with him, and 37-20 without him.

  22. Tiffany

They’re 48-44 in games where Easley has appeared. Surprisingly, they’re 20-13 when Argenis Reyes plays.
