On Tap Today ….

-We should hear something on Billy Wagner’s elbow today. He didn’t look good at all Saturday when he talked with us. Bad news would not be surprising.
-Ryan Church continues his rehab assignment today at Triple-A New Orleans. The Mets said today and tomorrow and he’ll be evaluated. That doesn’t mean he’ll be activated.
-Luis Ayala is to show up today. Expect Eddie Kunz to be optioned. But, he’ll be brought up when the rosters are expanded, Sept. 1. Damn, is it that late already? The season is flying by.
-Jose Reyes is to get the day off. His plans are to sit next to Jerry Manuel on the bench and annoy him. Good plan to get back on the field.
-The last time David Wright had a day off, he came back with a homer. “I’m not making any predictions,’’ he said.

Before you know it, you’ll be breaking out that winterscape sweater…you know, the one with the deer, the snowflakes and the Christmas tree.
Aubrey Huff who has 25HR and batting .300 has cleared revocable waivers, meaning he can be traded to any team in MLB at any time. Given the Church situation, we have to make this move. It will take a good amount to get him (parnell?) but it must be done. If Church does come back an outfield of Beltran, Church, Huff will be among the best offensive outfields in baseball. If Church doesn’t come back, Tatis/Murphy/Evans can continue to platoon in left while adding strength to the bench.
I think the concerns about Huff are his defense and the $10.6 million he’s owed between now and the end of 2009. You’d hate to have to take on that much money and surrender a prospect—for a guy whose glove you’re going to have to hide somewhere.
The idea of acquiring Huff, who is a left handed bat, is intriguing only if you are looking at him as the heir apparent to first base next year. Otherwise, as Tiffany has previously mentioned, his contract along with his defense are concerns. The further issue would be is FMart is going to need a spot in 2009 along with Church if he is again able to play.
Not to mention Mr. Murphy, Who I dont want to see wasting on the pine. Omar decided to go with organization guys and they have rewarded him. We dont need another lefty bat, either. Nady would have been the perfect fit, but that ship has sailed over the the Bronx. Lets hope Ayala can find his old form and contribute. At least he didnt cost anything.
I have my broom ready.
JD- any mention of former Rays closer Al Reyes… on waivers and tom. is the tenth day having a bad year but had 32 saves with the Rays and a nice run with the Cards in 06
