About Last Night ….

-John Maine said there was a little soreness, but nothing he couldn’t pitch through. Jerry Manuel said he would have liked to have gotten another inning from him, but he was right not to push it.
-Good job by Brian Stokes. Maybe he’ll be the long man they’ve been missing.
-The offense woke up, but I liked that they broke the game open without a homer in the big inning. Walks (patience) and hits. Kept constant pressure on.

It was a great job by Brian Stokes, instead of long man, shouldn’t he get a chance at setup man?—pending Wags return. Seriously, he’s got strike out stuff as he showed last night, Heilman/Sanchez can’t touch his velocity. On the downside, the team wasted the perfect opportunity to get Kunz some work and build his confidence and also made Stokes unavailable for tonight/tomorrow. Makes me think Kunz will be sent down when the collection of injured guys come back to the club.
Let’s see OP pitch well against a bad team. He has only one start this yr (not a good one) against Nats.
By contrast, 1.84, 0.35, 2.16 ERAs vs Yanks, Phils, Fla this yr and 3.17 vs Atl career.
Bob, maybe they wanted to keep Stokes stretched.
It has been suggested that Mets might throw him into a start now and then to keep others (I’d say Maine and Pelfrey especially, maybe even Pedro) fresh.
JD: What is the deal with the save rule? I couldn’t believe that Stokes got credit for a save last night. I saw somewhere that Castillo is going to Binghamton for a few rehab games…I’m sure i’m in the minority but I am happy that the end of the Argenis Reyes era is soon to be done.
Steve (The Original)
The rule is that if you pitch 3 or more innings and finsh the game that you are entitled to a save regardless of the score.
You know the funny thing about Wagner being out is yes, the Mets bullpen has not been doing very well and unless they get their act together, this team is not going to win a thing… but did you know the Mets are 6 & 3 since he went on the DL?
Doesnt hurt that they played SD, Pit, and Wash in that 9 game stretch Steve. Sorry, but it is true!
Big BY THE WAY…... Not sure if its been mentioned here yet, but Tuesday night’s Home Game against the Atlanta Braves MAY feature the return of one Tommy Glaviiiiine to the mound at Shea. Too bad Duracell isnt having a giveaway night!!! I say MAY because I am sure Mr. Glaviiiiiine will find some way to avoid this collision course!
And you thought Aaron Heilman got booed….
WHL: No it hasn’t hurt, but Billy has been known to blow saves against worse too!
