-If the Mets are to do anything this season, they need to solve their bullpen issues, and that means results have to come from the guys who are paid in that role. Good effort last night by Joe Smith and Pedro Feliciano.
-Jose Reyes has reached the 40 stolen base plateau for the fourth straight season.
-Say what you will about Santana, but he is taking them deep into games. He should have at least 13 wins by now and could have as many as 16. Few pitchers go nine on a regular basis these days, and if Santana keeps giving them seven he’s doing his job.
-A stat that needs improving: The Mets are 11-14 in one-run games.

They stated in the game last nite that Santana has never gone more than 22 games in one season w/over 100 pitches.
I guess it should be expected b/c he is not that big of a guy-compared to say Zambrano or Sabathia.
His W-L w/the Twins and his lack of ND in games where he gave up 0 or 1 shows that the Twins BP had/has been pretty darn good. And has given him the numbers (wins) everyone expected here.
That is the nature of todays game for SP. Probably why Johnson and maybe Musina might be the last 300 game winners.
JD – I never understood the importance of a team’s record in one-run games. For instance, if a team played better (winning those games) or played worse (losing those games by more than a run) then the sample size would be decreased. Also of those 11 wins the mets have in one-run games, I’d be interested to know how many came after the BP blew a save and then their offense capitalized in the bottom of the 9th or extra innings.
