Good news / bad news from tonight’s lineup. What did Daniel Murphy do to deserve to be in Jerry’s doghouse? Evans is in the 2 hole again instead of Murphy? You’ve got to be kidding me. Good news: Castro’s back and in the starting lineup.
Still don’t and never will understand the point of him batting 8th though? Put him 6th between Delgado and Tatis.
Lefty pitcher with Odalis Perez on the hill for the Nats. I think we go through this all the time with the Murphy questions of why he isn’t in the lineup. Manuel made it clear he would platoon the two youngsters with Murphy getting the start against righty’s and Evans against lefty’s. I don’t necessarily agree with it, but I do like that Manuel is keeping both of these youngsters fresh.
Oh no, lefty pitcher Odalis Perez? The ole’ tough lefty excuse, please. Wasn’t it murphy that pinch hit crushed a lefty into left field? He has shown he can hit lefties, albeit a very tiny sample size. The kid is 11 for 23, he needs to be playing until he cools or needs a day. He is perfect in the #2 hole, how many walks has he drawn so far? He takes pitches, he’s patient, Reyes can keep running in front of him. It just doesn’t make sense to have him sit again.
Bob: No doghouse for Murph. Manuel did say he was platooning them. Plus he has been hitting the ball pretty well lately. His avg against lefties in 36 AB’s is .333 with an OPS of .857. He deserves a shot.
Bob: Perez has held lefties to a .190 BA. I see no reason to keep Evans down.
Steve: Evans will probably be 3-4 with a few rib eye steaks tonight, shows why Manuel is the manager opposed to myself. However, when someone gets off to such an impressive start as Murphy has, it’s tough to see him riding the bench two games in a row regardless of the righty/lefty game.
I understand that. Murphy would probably do a good job too. But what does that say to a guy like Evans who has ripped lefties to the BA that I mentioned before. It wouldn’t be fair to him to sit him because Murphy is 1 for 1 against a lefty.
Oh yeah just another stat about Odalis Perez…his ERA is better than Pelfrey’s and Maine’s.
