Make up game this afternoon at Shea. Pedro Martinez will make his third start since July 12 today vs. Pittsburgh.
In a little over 11 innings in those two games he’s given up five homers.
He’s calling it rust.

RF Fernando Tatis
2B Damion Easley
C Robinson Cancel
P Pedro Martinez
Is Castro still Hurt?
Not that it matters, I’m sure the game will be rained out.
Castro’s ankle i’m sure is still bothering him. The weather sucks. If they do try to play which I am sure they will, it will end somewhere around 7:00 tonight with the Mets having to call Turk Wendell out of retirement to finish the game. :-)
Steve: Seriously, I understand this is getaway day, but it seems like earlier this morning they should have just changed the start date to either 4pm or 7pm.
Duke has not won a road game since May 07. He has an ERA over 6 on the road since then. But of course he is 2-0, ERA under 3 against Mets.
Game suppose to start at 140pm.
Mr Original: With Castro’s healing history almost as bad as Alou he should have been DL’d
Turk Wendell. Never asked for a day off…. Bullpens all across baseball could use attitude’s like his.

BTW sloppy… didn’t see ya either Saturday or Sunday, I was there both days in my Joe Smith jersey. It was quite obvious you were nothing but an internet tough talker.
WOW! A quick first inning and no home runs or runs for Petey! Could be a good day…
Bob: You certainly are pathetic. I think you are best suited to be in Iraq or Afghanistan. Why aren’t you there with real fighting men and women. CHICKEN. Does your jersey say # 1 with C H I C K E N on top of the # 1?
Sorry Delcos, but like I said I will not ignore attacks that are not provoked.
Does anyone else think David Wright will finish the season above 300 with 30 plus homers, 120 plus rbi’s and a possible MVP?
Sloppy – Never attacked you, I believe it was your idea to meet me?
Please don’t kiss up to Delcos either, JD could check the log from Thursday’s day game to see you asked me to meet in person “to settle this like man” and I reminded him how threats were not permitted per the TOS.
Can all of you please stop…I mean what are you guys like 16 years old? It’s ridiculous and childish to be arguing over nonsense…everyone is so tough behind a computer…get over it. We got a good Mets game brewing here with Pedro on the mound. Let’s talk NY Mets baseball please and stop with this he said she said bull!!!
I want a piece of you, Jimmy dean!
As far as Wright winning the MVP, I don’t know. His numbers are good but I’m not getting the feeling that it’s an MVP type season.
It was reported on mets.com that Castillo left PSL for some “personal reasons,” and won’t be back for a few days.
I think a big reason why, is because David Wright is quietly having a big season. A lot of it has been overshadowed by the recent resurgence of Delgado and the recent hot bat by Tatis. Those two have been carrying the team. I think if Wright keeps up his pace and it seems as if he will, there is no reason why he shouldn’t get considered for the MVP. Who else in the national league at this point could you give it to? Perhaps Ryan Braun? And JohnM, I do make a mean sausage!!!
And yet again a runner tries to advance to third on a ground ball to SS, Darling & Cohen must be going nuts about that.
On your D Wright MVP chances in my opinion that will all depend on how the team finishes and more importantly how he performs during the stretch run. He definitely has as good a chance as anyone in the NL right now.
Bob: I would never want or request to meet you….
If the Cardinals are in it at the end, Puljos may get the MVP.
And you listen to me Jimmy dean, I’ll be under the bridge at the next home game wearing my Joe Smith jersey. You come find me and we’ll see just how mean your sausage is!
Agreed on Pujols I think there are a number of guys who could get it depending on where thier teams finish. September will be a big for not only the pennant race but also for the MVP race.
So Cancel has more clutch hits as a Met than Schnieder does in 1/8th of the starts.
Why won’t Delgado barrel over a catcher? He’s huge, why is he scared of a collision?
Bob: Schnieder had one of the biggest hits of the season against the Phillies in Philly. It might be looked at as THE biggest hit of the season. So stop ragging on my guy! lol
That’s not exclusive to Delgaldo its just the way the game is played today, you rarely see those type of plays anymore…
That double was about as huge a hit as i can remeber this season…
By the way, that Ryan Doumit is having one helluva season in Pittsburgh. 12 homers 38 RBI .333 avg .377 obp and .560 slg coming into today’s game. That’s what sucks about playing in obscurity.
David: I wouldn’t say that, in the span of two weeks I saw A-Rod destroy a catcher at the plate and then saw a little guy take out Ivan Rodriguez as well. If you want to say it’s common among the Mets (Endy, Reyes + Delgado come to mind) that’s one thing, but I wouldn’t say its particularly common throughout the entire league.
Guarantee Daniel Murphy if given the opportunity, he would barrel the hell out of a catcher. Guy is the next Pete Rose, minus about 2000 hits
Pedro’s lost it in the 4th, I don’t know if 4 runs will be enough.
NOT a good inning for Pedro. Walk and Andy LaRoche should never be mentioned together.
And a big THANK YOU to Steve Pearce
for the TWO guys you saw do it. I can show you 100 plays at the plate where you dont see it done. It’s definitely not exclusive to the mets.
Steve: You must be thinking of Adam Laroche. Unless you’ve followed Adam in the minors, he has less than 10 MLB starts, unless he’s just like his brother, that’d be some coincidence.
Somewhere, right now, Ty Wigginton is dreaming of running into a catcher.
No, with Andy LaRoche hitting a robust .184, he should not be a guy that is walked. Adam is the vet who played for the Braves and now the Bucs.
Dunn to the Dbacks for 3 prospects! We could have used him, but as you know, the waiver wire goes to teams with the lowest record first, so Omar had no chance.
Pedro’s struggling, 2 walks in the last inning now walking the 8th hitter. Get Stokes up already!
3-2 Curveball against Chris Gomez talk about ridiculous.
And THATS what happens when you walk the ballpark Petey.
At least Pedro will get his 5 innings in—enough to qualify for the Win if the game gets called. What’s the weather like up there now?
I’m not disappointed about Dunn. I’m more disappointed that Pedro let Doug Minwhatever get an RBI hit against him.
Does anyone think Pedro gets another inning? No matter what, the Mets really need to start adding on some runs in this inning. They let the Pirates off the hook in the first. They need to score some more.
Steve: If he hasn’t been walking people the way he has been, I’d give him another inning. That said 5 walks in 5 innings has showed me nothing against him putting free runners on in the 6th. I’d say get Stokes or Lugo up for a couple innings, Stokes said he’d be ready to go out of the pen today.
I’d consider giving him the baserunner leash. Sending him back out there but as soon as he sniffs trouble get him out of there.
Wow! The question is, Do you bring him out for the 7th? Johan Who? JK… but Petey showed today he’s still a serviceable #5 starter. ALTHOUGH if it were a team other than Pittsburgh those 5BBs may have easily turned into 5-6 runs.
Shoot. With that quick inning now I wonder if he will go out for the seventh with the bottom of the lineup coming up! lol
Gosh for all the crap we talk myself included I’ll take 6ip 3 H 1 R any day of the week from Pedro.
Nice Cancel! Way to tack on buddy!
So I guess no Pedro for the 7th. Well I can hardly blame them. 99 pitches on a cold/damp August day. Except the walks it was a good day for Pedro. He’s lucky though he pitched against the Pirates today
David: So would I, but the 4 BBs through 5 is a bit alarming, remember it was the Pirates. Better hitting teams would have surely taken advantage of those free base runners. If you put it in perspective, walks/hits combined, 6IP, 7 Baserunners isn’t all that good of an outing. Like I said, serviceable against a second division team that can’t hit. They should think about throwing Pedro against weak lineups and Stokes against better hitting lineups.
