Mets Notebook ….

August
6

-Jerry Manuel said he wanted to go longer with Carlos Beltran in the two hole, but when the offense snoozed in Houston he feared a team slump and dropped him down and moved Daniel Murphy to second. Murphy has been impressive with his patience at the plate and for now will stay second.

-Ryan Church took BP today and will be re-examined tomorrow or Friday. Then they will make a decision on what happens next. Manuel said he’s looking at anything from Church is a bonus. That’s hardly encouraging.

-Oliver Perez will start Friday. No word on Saturday, but I am betting Jon Niese and they aren’t saying anything to keep the pressure off him.

-Luis Castillo is getting closer. But Manuel said he won’t just pop him back in the lineup.

Jerry just said on the radio that the Saturday starter is someone who they could use in the pen, I doubt they would bring Niese up and then put him in the pen.

Bring on the Ruddy Lugo Era. You’ve dreamt it. Now live it. Give us the Lugo already.
