Mets Chat Room: Wright picks up for bullpen in win over Padres.

August
6

The bullpen blew another save opportunity for Johan Santana. That’s six on the season and counting. However, David Wright, whom Jerry Manuel thought needed a breather, convinced his manager he was all right and rewarded him with a game-winning homer.

Wright is a special player. After Wednesday’s game he admitted his mistake. He’s always been stand-up that way. When he said he can play, I believe him.

I know Santana has taken a lot of heat this year for not going nine, but he has done his job. He could easily have 12 or 13 victories, perhaps more with help from the pen.

  1. Tiffany

Is it true that Giuseppe Franco is taking BP before tonight’s game?

  2. Jimmy dean

Yes Tiff…he actually was on Daily News Live, and was a pretty funny guest. He even made it very clear that he didn’t OWN the company or OWN anything about it.

  3. John Delcos

Tiffany: It’s true. He was here in all his glory and hairspray.-JD

  4. John Delcos

Nice start by Pedro. I have a feeling we might see the pen early tonight.-JD

  5. Bob (southington, CT)

Just wow. What else does this team need to see before they remove him from the rotation? Good outing from Neise? Since we’re bringing up all the kids, might as well run out Neise and Parnell and move Pedro to the pen if they refuse to release him, this is terrible.

  6. David

Pedro is what he is at this point. He just cant miss his spots like some other pitchers can and get away with it.

  7. Bob (southington, CT)

He ISNT a good #5 starter though. His ERA has been over 5.00 all year, I’d rather have Livan as our five although that is now a moot point as well. How about Murphy baby!! Like what I see.

  8. Bob (southington, CT)

Over the past few games Delgado looks like he’s returning to form to me, getting behind in 0-2 counts and swinging at balls in the dirt.

  9. matt B in AZ

pedro has only made two mistakes that happened to be to two good hitters. we’ll be fine

  10. matt B in AZ

does anyone else wonder why they don’t bring figuroa or vargas back up for a few starts?

  11. David

Bob he’s 6-13 over the last 4 games.

  12. pvhornet05

When did Jody Gerut become a good hitter. Oh thats right when he plays the Mets.

Anyways, I would like too see Pedro throw one up and in at Gerut. He looks too comfortable.

  13. matt B in AZ

    nice bounceback by pedro

  14. David

    Matt,

I actually wouldnt be surprised to see either one this weekend.

  15. matt B in AZ

    david- i hope its vargas

  16. Bob (southington, CT)

MattB, Gerut is not a good hitter, I’m sorry. Secondly, you said “Pedro has only made two mistakes to two good hitters.” You failed to mention your statement was in regards to ONE inning of work! Pedro makes these “mistakes” in EVERY outing otherwise he wouldn’t have an ERA over 6.00 Since he is giving up one home run every 3.1 innings, I wouldn’t exactly call them “mistakes.” You then post that we should call up Vargas and Figgy for some starts? So which is it, will he be fine? Or should we replace him in the rotation?

David, I said the past few games he looked like he was returning to form, I agree he’s had some hits, but on OTHER at bats his eye hasn’t looked as good as it did in the previous weeks, just something I noticed and hopefully he snaps out of it and stays patient at the plate.

  17. David

    Matt,

Daily news is reporting on their blog that Brian Stokes was scratched from his start tonight so that would lead you to believe he will be the guy this weekend.

  18. matt B in AZ

bob- i’m trying to cut back on my complaining. two mistakes is good for pedro, and i have an odd sense of faith that the mets will actually hit tonight. that’s what i meant by “we’ll be fine”
i’m in no way saying that i feel good with pedro on the mound. like i said, i’d rather have figuroa or vargas out there right now

  19. benny blanco from da bronx

It doesn’t matter who the starter on Saturday is really…
They’re only going to be up for one start anyway.
Vargas or Figgueroa, or Niese, its only one start.

  20. matt B in AZ

o my god jody gerut made an out

  21. Bob (southington, CT)

MattB… gotcha. I still don’t understand the “two mistakes is good” but, I’m not a confrontational guy, so ehhh whatever. Hopefully we do start hitting, lets get it started Josey. LGM!

  22. benny blanco from da bronx

David, if its Stokes then I’d actually like to see what he’s got. Just to see a different face and because he has good strikeout numbers. His problem is his control.
I guess thinking about it, he’ll be like watching Victor Zambrano. Whatever… we’ll see.

  23. Bob (southington, CT)

    That ball was REALLY LOW!

  24. Bob (southington, CT)

After that first pitch called strike Reyes turned to the ump and let out, “aw c’mon dog,” and he’s still shaking his head about it after the ground out. I really think Reyes gets bothered with things too easily and lets it affect his play. His head probably wasn’t in the rest of that at-bat because he was still mad over the fist pitch.

Murphy shows he can bunt too, looks like he’ll be a solid #2 hitter.

  25. matt B in AZ

bob- i’ll let this whole thing go too but i’m just gonna say that usually when the sh*t its the fan for pedro, it results in more than 2 runs.

  26. Bob (southington, CT)

Phils up 3-0 in the 3rd. As long as we can win, it’ll be a win-win for the Mets, we’ll either pick up ground in the division or in teams we need to jump for the WC.

  27. matt B in AZ

time for delgado to put one off the scoreboard

  28. Bob (southington, CT)

Matt B, understood, we do have a LOOOONG way to go.

  29. David

This ump is all over the place curve ball in the dirt strike one to jose, curve ball at the letters strike one to Delgaldo

  30. Bob (southington, CT)

David… back to back 0-2 counts to Delgado to start this game.

  31. David

    Bob,

ok its been a rough two AB’s in this game but your comment was over the last few games he’s reverting back to his old self all i did was point out he was 6-14 over his last 4 games.

  32. David

Nice job by Pedro not letting the leadoff walk hurt him.

  33. matt B in AZ

top of the order coming up next inning. lets pray that pedro doesnt give up any runs

  34. David

Ugh Reyes has got to make that catch in that spot. Now the inning is set up for the padres.

Here in my mind you put Gerut on and set up the DP.

  35. matt B in AZ

if pedro gets out of this we will win this game

  36. David

Horrible pitch selection to Gonzalez there. A 3-2 curve ball is just not the right pitch.

    Good job by Pedro though.

  37. matt B in AZ

    jose on 2nd none out…hmm

  38. David

Murphy is the greatest hitter in Mets history…. Relax im kidding. Great stuff weve seen from him though.

  39. Bob (southington, CT)

Murphy! Kid is legit. I know, three games, but he looks GREAT in the batters box.

  40. Bob (southington, CT)

Wow, unacceptable. 1st and 2nd with no outs and we don’t even get the lead runner to third?

  41. BH

    Gotta bench Wright for that.

  42. Bob (southington, CT)

Wright really needs a day off tomorrow. Struggling at the plate, field and now the basepaths. They’ve got Tatis or Murphy to play third tomorrow afternoon, it looks like he’s due.

  43. John Delcos

That’s 82 pitches from Pedro. I wouldn’t have thought it after the way the game started.-JD

  44. David

You know its funny ive seen comments criticizing Delgaldo tonight but yet noone except for BH now has said a word about Wright. He has been struggling at the bat big time and today marks his 2nd baserunning blunder in as many nights.

  45. John Delcos

    BH: Nice. I got that.-JD

  46. Bob (southington, CT)

BH: Don’t have to bench him, he made a mistake he usually doesn’t, although making two in two days looks like a day off is in order.

  47. David

    Bob,

I def agree about Wright. WOuld love to get the win tonight and sit Wright tomorrow.

  48. Bob (southington, CT)

Definitely, we could even get Evans in Left, Murphy at 3B, while keeping Tatis’ bat in the lineup and letting the kids play.

  49. Taylor

    Wright looks stressed out too.

  50. David

Weak lineup or not Good Job by pedro tonight so far. Would be great if he could get this through 7. With that said the bats really need to pick this up soon because if this becomes a battle of the pens i think we all know where we’ll put our money.

  51. Bob (southington, CT)

Pedro’s looking pretty good against an offensively anemic Pads team, but good nonetheless. Credit due. Can we please open up some offense against this team… c’mon boys.

  52. John Delcos

Pedro has 92 pitches. I’d let him come out for the seventh and let go until a guy gets on.-JD

  53. Bob (southington, CT)

The yankees trainers had to assist Pudge walking to the clubhouse after a collision with David Murphy, both looked pretty shaken up. The yanks just can’t win with their catcher situation. Whats with pitchers throwing at Tatis?

  54. Bob (southington, CT)

I really don’t understand the persistent fake bunts that this club unleashes. Seriously, Tatis fake bunt? What is the point of that? I can SEE on a 3-0 count if you want to shake it around and do that little league ordeal, but c’mon, guys like Tatis should not be fake bunting with no on and no out. And sorry for venting so long over something that it really not that big of a deal.

  55. John Delcos

Bob: Maybe the Padres didn’t like Tatis’ celebration after his second homer. ... Pedro coming out for the seventh. I like this.-JD

  56. BH

We know Wright enough to know it isn’t that he doesn’t care, but he is making mistakes…obviously he is tired that that’s what came of that. But you have to make the point to everyone, be it not caring, being tired, etc. if that’s the way you’re going to play you need to sit.

  57. David

3-2 changeup to a guy who cant hit his weight you’re doing hime favor

  58. Bob (southington, CT)

JD – that could be true, or it might have been the fake bunt “surprised” the pitcher and he wanted to foul it off his bat. Eh, who knows.

Jody Gerut… the one hitter I don’t want to see here.

  59. Bob (southington, CT)

Speaking of which, does anyone know any other males named “Jody?”

  60. David

    Jody Davis Cubs Catcher

  61. RMKMets

Putting Feliciano in here was a stupid move in general. If he gets out of this then Manuel looks good, but I mean the guy went long last nite…and not to mention the Mets bullpen trend…one good outing tonite means a bad one tomorrow. Ugh

  62. Bob (southington, CT)

Yup, thats the ball game. Gotta sit him tomorrow, no question.

  63. RMKMets

Wright needs to get his stupid head in this game. He was talking all this stuff about how the team needs to “get it going” but he’s the biggest culprit of all with his bonehead baserunning, now crap defense, and his choking at the plate. He should be benched tomorrow without a doubt

  64. Bob (southington, CT)

RMKMets: wasn’t Pedro’s fault, he did his job, should have been out of the inning. Wright is responsible for this game.

  65. matt B in AZ

well looks like we’re in line to break Playoff Hunt Rule #1-don’t get cold when your opponent (the phillies) are hot.

  66. Bob (southington, CT)

Matt B, we’ve been cold for a week and a half.

  67. matt B in AZ

yea i realized that right after i typed it lol

  68. David

    Feliciano absolutely did his job.

  69. Bob (southington, CT)

Would you send Murphy here against Bard? At least hit and run with as cold as Wright is.

  70. Bob (southington, CT)

Delgramps is due. Get the book out. You don’t want it with Delgrampa. I’m not using that term hating on the man either, surely I did earlier in the season, but now I use it because he’s the elder statesmen of the crew.

  71. Bob (southington, CT)

Can you believe the idiots at Shea (IN THE ORANGE SEATS) doing the wave during the biggest at bat of the game?

  72. Bob (southington, CT)

    Clutch hits? Nope, not often.

  73. matt B in AZ

if it werent for that 1-5 road trip this game wouldnt be that big of a deal

  74. Annie Savoy

Storms in the area have finally moved on.

Glad to hear that Pedro re-grouped after that first inning and was able to stay until the seventh – that’s longer than a lot of the young hot shots manage to pitch.

  75. Bob (southington, CT)

Annie Savoy… it was against the Padres, but I like your positive outlook nonetheless. Well, nothing is impossible off of Hoffman, let’s get it boys! Wright will get his last day off of the season tomorrow and it’s safe to say with the Marlins this weekend, tomorrow is a MUST WIN.

  76. agee

well now the pressure is on, if we let trevor hoffman shut us down….(shudders)

  77. Annie Savoy

Howie has put the Pedro et.al game “In The Book”.

Tomorrow’s game is an afternoon ‘camp’ game at noon. Santana is due to pitch.

  78. Harry Chiti

Padre player of the game: David Wright…..

  79. Dan Gurney

What was the stat SNY flashed during the game. The Mets have the secind worst bullpen ERA (7.02!) since the All Star break. Come back Rick Peterson, all is forgiven!

  80. scoopcoop

Dan, a just as important stat was the run differential SNY showed. Mets #1 1-3 inn, 2nd to last 7-9inn.

Meanwhile Fish and Phils are 1st and 2nd in come back wins. None of this bodes well for Mets.

And so much for my thinking Kunz would not be givin up gopher balls.

Tomorrow is a must win. Santana on the mound, at home against Pads who don’t hit (supposedly). You gotta win that one.

  81. tomg

    Dan Gurney,

basically the same bull pen was here last year when the mets collapsed and mostly because of the bull pen and Peterson was the pitching coach. I don’t know how anybody else feels but I am looking forward to see what changes Omar makes in the off season. I want to see changes in this team. I don’t want to see any more retreads or over the hill past there prime players. I also want to see the bull pen rebuilt.

  82. tomg

“Meanwhile Fish and Phils are 1st and 2nd in come back wins. None of this bodes well for Mets.”

That’s why the fish and phils will fight for the division the last two weeks of the season while the mets will be playing out the season.

  83. Dan Gurney

thanks scoopcoop, didn’t see that stat. Must have been when I went for a beer.

The line about The Sweater was mostly tongue in cheek. Nowadays pitching and hitting coaches mostly exist to be fired
so the owners can tell the fans we are doing something.

But two years ago the bullpen was the strength with Wagner, Heilmann, Bradford, Sanchez. Now it’s an Achilles heel.

  84. tomg

It’s a shame about sanchez, before he got in to the accident he was threw nasty stuff and for the most part didn’t give up any hits. I think sanchez will never be the same again.

  85. Bob (southington, CT)

scoopoop: what you failed to mention was tomorrow is not only a must win, but Santana must also throw a complete game.

  86. scoopcoop

Santana will only throw a complete game if it is 9-1 in the 7th.

But seriously, after seeing his last game after having gone 9 before, I do not see being more than a 7 inn pitcher. He just hasn’t got more than 100 quality pitches in him/start and if he goes 120 one game, the next game he has got less than 100 in him.

Unfortunately for him and Mets that is 2 inn too short to be sure of a win. I believe he is 3-2-4 in games where he has given up 1 or 0 runs. Those 4 no decisions are more I believe than he had in his entire Twins career. I believe his record in those games as a Twinkie was 19-3-3.

  87. Harry Chiti

I like the line about so much for Kunz not giving up gopher balls. Nothing like giving a kid absolutely no chance to establish himself.
And don’t forget all the Jerry lovers need to explain bringing up a punch and Judy hitter instead of a HR hitter in the 8th with 2 out and tieing run at the plate. Even Cohen couldn’t justify that latest bad Mr Interim move.

  88. Bob

But Harry Chiti aka vulva swirler: If your boy Randope was still the manager he would have brought Heilman back out to complete the 7th in order to “work out the kinks,” Homerun Heilman would have proceeded to give up a 3run jack and we wouldn’t have even had a ball game in the 8th. I also think if he brought up Castro in that situation he would have struck out on 3 pitches, sure he has pop, but he doesn’t have a quick bat. Reyes put some nice cuts on the ball and he definitely has a quicker bat than Castro.

  89. tomg

I really don’t think either randolph or manuel are going to turn the mets in to a playoff team. The bottom line is this team isn’t good enough. The mets are only three games out in early august, plenty of time to get on a run but for some reason i have no passion to watch this team play or feel like this team will make a run to win the division. I’m actually more excited to see what changes Omar will make in the off season. I really hope Omar goes in a new direction and gets rid of the retreads and over the hill players that I’ve been watching since 2006.

  90. tomg

The mets are 59-54. Before the 10 game winning streak the mets were a .500 to sub .500 team. After the 10 game winning streak the mets are 8-10. Obviously if it wasn’t for the ten game winning streak this team would be under .500. This team in 103
games are sub .500 team. They are what they are, not a good team. I can’t get excited about a team i root for that is a sub .500 team, that’s a mediocre team, that’s just me. I would be shocked if this team was still in the race in the middle of September. Almost the same thing is happening again with this team. Injuries to the SP and bull pen again, another September swoon.

  91. Bob

    tomg:

“i have no passion to watch this team play or feel like this team will make a run to win the division”

Since you won’t be watching the rest of the season that means you’ll be absent from these comment sections as well? Or will you come back when they go on a 3 game winning streak and stick around while they lose their next two after that?

“I really hope Omar goes in a new direction and gets rid of the retreads and over the hill players that I’ve been watching since 2006”

I have a new direction for Omar to go in the offseason, it’s south down I95, I heard Philly will be looking for a new GM as Gillick is retiring.

  92. tomg

    Bob,

I’m not not sure Bob but whatever I do decide to do it’s none of your business and I don’t have a problem with Omar going south as long as the gm for the mets makes the right moves.

  93. Bob

I’m just saying, it makes sense; you won’t be watching the team anymore so you shouldn’t be commenting on Delcos’ blog. I mean you’ll have no idea whats going on, so there’s really no need for your worthless two cents anymore. No need to stick around and talk about something that you have no idea about.

  94. tomg

    Bob,

time to go see the phychiatrist and get your self medication.
All you bring to this blog is your personal attacks. If you want to talk baseball which is what this blog is about than bring it on and we will see who knows there stuff about baseball. If not than hit the road dude.

  95. Who Needs Lohan

tomg, although I agree with you yesterday, I am very much against you today. The season is a 162 game marathon. I watch nearly every game of the season as many of the rest of you do. But too many of you (tomg today) are just too influenced by the day to day swings of emotion that occur during the season. Granted this team overall has showned no ability to maintain a winning feeling, but at the same time you cant be gung-ho mets fan when they win, and I cant watch this team mets fan when they lose. If you asked me in the beginning of the season if I would sign up for being 3 games behind the phils on Aug 7th I would have been all for it. Id probably choose that versus being up 3 games (but thats a different story). Can’t you just relax and watch the games without slitting your wrist one day and then the next act like everything is great. In other words, settle down!

  96. Bob

tomg: Personal attacks? Please show me one instance of a personal attack. You said you wouldn’t be watching the team anymore, so I don’t understand the point of sticking around and speaking negatively about the Mets. If you want to watch the team and talk about how bad they are there is nothing wrong with that—Blog it up. However, if you aren’t going to watch them, read the box score in the paper and come on here and talk “baseball,” that is unnecessary. You should probably stop worrying about others self-medicating themselves and go back to your summer school English class, learn to use proper grammar please.

  97. Bob

Who needs Lohan: Thanks for that, although feeding the troll is probably the worst thing for us to do. I’ve absolutely had it as well with “fans” who either disappear or give you the “I told you so” attitude when they’re winning and talk about how they’re done watching when they lose. I have no problem with a “fan” like tomg deciding he can’t watch this team anymore. It’s tough to watch them, it’s stressful, but that’s your decision. If you don’t want to watch them, there is really NO NEED for your comments on this or any mets blog. You can find plenty of message boards to post your rants to boost your-confidence, I mean, your jets just got Favre go get ready for football season.

  98. Harry Chiti

tomg: You represent the ups and downs and emotions of fans. Keep up the good work.

bob: You answered me with an opinion that Castro would have struck out, but could not answer the criticism of Mr Interim. Its obvious that you could not defend your beloved Mr Interim anymore than Cohen could. Manuel’s in game moves are pathetic. He has burned out his pen faster than Willie did last year. You guys hated Willie making moves from the gut but Manuel moves vcome out of a hat. He is losing the team already. At least Randolph took two plus years to lose his team.

  99. tomg

Ok, bob, no personal attacks, I guess telling someone “go back to summer school English class to learn proper grammar” isn’t a personal attack. Maybe it’s you who needs to go back to school to learn English, Bob.

  100. Who Needs Lohan

On more of a baseball front, this is my lineup for today if I am Mr. Interim

    1. J Reyes SS
    2. E. Chavez RF
    3. C. Beltran CF
    4. C. Delgado 1B
    5. F. Tatis 3B
    6. D. Murphy LF
    7. R. Castro C
    8. J Santana P
    9. A Reyes 2B

  101. tomg

    ok bob,

“I mean you’ll have no idea whats going on, so there’s really no need for your worthless two cents anymore.”

That is a personal attack, stating I have no idea, Bob.

  102. tomg

    Who Needs Lohan ,

see you are influenced by Tony La russa.

  103. Who Needs Lohan

you know I have though a lot about that move and I think the positive out weigh the negatives. I would say there are more instances where the 8 hitter is in a bunt situation than the 9 hitter. I may be dilusional but it just seems logical to me. Also, I like the idea that there is a cleaner bridge to the top of the order. LaRusa seems to have a good idea there, and when they were against us it seemed to work out more often than not. I also think it works that much more when you have a “capable” hitting pitcher, that is of course if he runs WHILE he is watching the ball!

  104. Bob

tomg: My actual post was, “go back to your summer school English class, learn to use proper grammar please”

You stated that my post was: “go back to summer school English class to learn proper grammar”

Then you proceeded to tell me that I needed to go back to summer school.

So let me get this correct: you use improper grammar, then quote me with something I never said to accuse me of using improper grammar, just so you can tell me to go back to school? Wow. Fighting on the internet? Lame.

I told you to go back to summer school to learn grammar because it is difficult to decipher the points you are trying to make. When you don’t speak the English language properly, it makes you look unintelligent, you should thank me for my recommendation.

Chiti: I answered your criticism with telling you Argenis Reyes was the best option to face Bell, Castro’s bat isn’t quick enough. What is your answer to not burning out the pen when the starters rarely go into the 6th inning anymore?

  105. tomg

I have no problem at all with that move but I doubt that manuel would make such a move. By the way, just to be fair. I’ve been saying the same thing about the mets since the beginning of the season. Check out all the blog postings under my name if it’s possible. I’m not saying this when the mets lose or win. It’s been my theme from the beginning.

  106. Who Needs Lohan

Hey tomg look on the bright side, less than three months to our Rangers retake the ice!

  107. Who Needs Lohan

    actually 2 months!

  108. tomg

Bob, enough with your little girly garbage petty nonsense. Do you want to talk baseball? Why? because this is a baseball blog. If not than go away because you make no sense. all you continue to do is post responses that make you look like a little kid. Please stop acting like your shoe size and start talking baseball or just go away. I really don’t care what you think about what I said anymore, just go away.

How we doing, that’s what I’m excited about!!!!

Rangers hockey. I can’t wait. I very excited to see the new and improved rangers.

    Let’s go rangers!!!

  110. Who Needs Lohan

tomg watch yourself bro, Bob may scold you for saying you want to talk baseball and then talking hockey. You are on one slippery slope my friend!

  111. Bob

tomg: Actually it was yourself who said you were going away. You said you weren’t watching this team anymore, so please do us all a favor and stop criticizing the team every second of your life, there must be more productive things for you to do.

    hmmm… personal attacks?

“Bob, enough with your little girly garbage petty nonsense”

Please go root for the yankees on another blog, troll.

Good morning and welcome to cliche day at Shea!

    This is a must win
This is the reason why the Mets got Santana
If we lose again, the season’s over

Well, unless the Mets start hitting the ball, it won’t matter how well Johan pitches. I think Wright will be in there again even though he can use the rest.

  114. Who Needs Lohan

I know what you mean, the New York Mets and The New York Rangers in a given year probably reduce my success rate in that category by at least 50% if you catch my drift! Isnt there a joke about that why Canadian’s do it a certain way so they both can watch the hockey game? I digress…..

My guess is Kunz is slated as the closer today.

  115. Bob

tomg: that was hilarious! Needs to get some, wow, thank God you threw in that “if you know what I mean, LOL” that further validated that you really are on a summer vacation from high school. I feel sorry for Delcos.

  116. Bob

Steve: The funny thing is, people have been saying those statements every game for the past couple of months. The sad truth is, no matter how many people say they are done watching, win or lose today, unfortunately they will be back tomorrow.

  117. Bob

In BASEBALL related news: Citing Rosenthal, an “unamed” team has claimed Giles, I really hope thats the Mets. We’ve got our best chance of claiming a player while in third place than if we happen to swap with the Marlins after today.

  118. Steve (The Original)

Bob: I hope it’s the Mets as well. I’m sure it will be found out soon enough. He’d be perfect given that it really sounds like Church isn’t coming back this season.

  119. Bob

It would be a good option for the stretch run, I like what I’ve seen from him the past couple of games here. Murphy can spell either Giles/Tatis to give them days off.

  120. Steve (The Original)

Quite honestly, this team isn’t going anywhere unless Beltran has a nice month or two stretch of hitting the tar out of the ball and carrying the team. Wright also needs to wake up as well.

  121. Bob

JD – 30 minutes from gametime, no lineup GEEZ!

Haha, just kidding, you must have stopped for coffee at 4am again. I’m just anxious to see whether or not the kid is still playing or if Jerry doesn’t believe he has the stamina to start three days in a row.

  122. Bob

    Reyes, ss
    A. Reyes, 2b
    Wright, 3b
    Beltran, cf
    Tatis, rf
    Murphy, lf
    Castro, c
    Evans, 1b
    Santana, lhp

    That lineup is disgusting!

  123. Who Needs Lohan

Bob, the only part I dont like is Delgado getting the day off vs. Wright. Wright didnt even look healthy to me the last two nights, he has looked thin and pale to me like he needs a hamburger in the sun somewhere.

  124. Steve (The Original)

so he sits Delgado against the righty? Stupid stupid stupid…and did I say, stupid? I hope he isn’t hurt.

  125. Stillsane

Should have just given the whole first team the day off – Chavez in Center, Murphy at third, Easley in left…

  126. tomg

The Mets won’t have to worry about Brian Giles in the lineup today for the Padres because he was claimed on waivers by the red sox.

  127. Harry Chiti

Bob: Castro’s bat is the fastest on the bench. Reyes would be a good lead off choice. You obviously are so pleased to have Willie gone that you believe all the Mr Interim garbage. Too bad.

I guess Chavez is in Mr Interim’s dog house. Or has he been DFA’d? I guess Delgado is benched against a righty because it was his fault that David Wright played like he was a 5 year old last night. I guess having Wright play today shows the rest of the team that Mr Interim has his favorite’s no matter how poorly they execute. The honeymoon’s over Mr Interim. The most ardent of Willie haters, are catching on to your hideous game day decisions.

  128. Bob

Wow… the sox with an abundance of outfielders now. Nice quick inning by Johan, just 8 more needed.

  129. Bob

Harry Chiti vulva swirler, it’s a good thing you aren’t the manager, otherwise we wouldn’t have a basehit right there.

  130. Who Needs Lohan

Wright will have a big game today

  131. Bob

2 left on in the first, on pace for 18 today.

  132. Harry Chiti

If I were the manager Bob, Delgado would have crushed one off the scoreboard for a 2-0 lead. You and your bro got us a big zero.

  133. Who Needs Lohan

Wow the pessimism stinks in here. Thats why they play 9 innings/162 games so each out/AB/game dont mean the entire season.

  134. Harry Chiti

Why did Mr Interim move Murphy out of the 2 hole Bob. Did he look too good there?

  135. Bob

Just like he’s been crushing balls off of the scoreboard for the past week, but he’d suddenly decide to crush on in the top of the first with a runner (Wright) on base? Yeah, not likely.

  136. Who Needs Lohan

oh boy, the pessimists wills start talking about how much Santana sucks!

  137. Stillsane

So much for the no hitter, or the shut out…. The Mets really need to put some numbers up this game so they can relax a little.

  138. Bob

Game over. Oh well, at least tomg isn’t watching today. /Sarcasm

  139. Harry Chiti

When has our newly returned to the clean up spot guy Beltran crushed one out? Any since the All Star break? When has anyone but Delgado taken this offense on his shoulders this year? Never.

  140. Bob

Josh Banks, 3-4 3.40 ERA this is the exact type of pitcher that will throw 8IP 2H 0ER against us.

  141. Bob

Chiti, I know you’re a yanks fan, but you must have been sleeping if you didn’t think Church carried this team through April & May.

  142. Bob

Chiti, looks to me like the mets “quickest bat on the team” just had trouble catching up to three consecutive 86mph fastballs. Did you miss that one?

  143. Bob

43 pitches through 2.1, just phenomenal. It’s hard to fathom that the Dbacks signed a much better pitcher than Johan for 11 million a year, compared to the ridiculous 27 Johan makes. Mets got hosed.

  144. Tiffany

According to Wayne Hagin on WFAN, Josh Banks once went to an Orioles game at Camden Yards and saw Mike Mussina strike out 15 batters. More details as they become available.

  145. Who Needs Lohan

its a good thing we have 7 more turns at bat right?

  146. Harry Chiti

Uh Bob, The Mets had a their normal .500 record in April/May. You got me on that horrible Castro AB but
looks like Castro is still hurt,. Of course Mr Interim doesn’t care. He pulled his name out of the hat. Why do you think I’m a Yankee fan? If I was a Yankee fan I’d have plenty of things to complain about on Abraham’s board.

  147. Bob

Is it a good thing? or does it matter? At this rate Johan is coming out in the 6th, making the bullpen good for at least 3 runs.

  148. Bob

Harry: you first complained then Jerry used Argenis last night instead of Castro, saying Jerry was a bad manager for doing so. Now Jerry is a bad manager because he “picked” Castro’s name out of a hat to play today. Which is it? You can’t call for both and then get on Jerry regardless of what he does. I call you a Yankees fan because you’re so fickle.

  149. Harry Chiti

Well, Bob, Darling said Castro looks like his ankle is still hurt. Unlike morons like George Bush and Mr Interim, new info forces people of intelligence like you and me to adjust accordingly. If Castro didn’t PH because he was hurt he shouldn’t be playing today. If he’s ok then who taught him that new swing because that person should be fired.

  150. Tiffany

    It’s all about attention.

  151. Bob

You’re 100% correct, because what Ron Darling views from a television monitor opposed to how Castro and the trainer say he feels constitutes “New Info.” Keep up the excellent work.

  152. Harry Chiti

Unlike the Met front office and interim manager I haven’t ever known Ron Darling to lie. You stick with the liars , I’ll stick with Darling. By the way has Church’s migraine gone away yet? I guess he’s in the book of world records.

  153. Steve (The Original)

Can’t we all just get along.

  154. Ray Sadecki

Looks like Bob is getting tag teamed here. Time to lend a little support. Anybody who regularly posts here knows tomg likes to go into fits and complain about the Mets when they lose a few games in a row. If I had a dollar for every time he said he was done with this team, I wouldnt have to work no more. (bad grammar, I know) When the Mets had thier winning streak, tomg was absent most of the time. He just likes to whine, and his cohort sloppy, who is using his harry chiti moniker today never has a good word to say about the mets no matter what name he uses is backing him up. So Bob, I got your back.

  155. Bob

Ron Darling lies… about interest rates, watch the commercial yourself.

  156. Bob

Harry… it’s really good that Mets Management listened to you and benched our newly found cleanup hitter for today’s game.

  157. Bob

Thanks Ray… LGM (real fans only)

  158. Who Needs Lohan

    Dan Murphy!

  159. Bob

Dan Murphy! The Kid! The Franchise! Ok Sarcasm… but I did pick him up for a fantasy spot start for today.

  160. Steve (The Original)

Come bring your kids….to see our kids…. :-)

  161. David

Murphy looks wonderful. I liked him the 2 hole but with the offense struggling not a bad idea to have him lower in the order to get some RBI chances.

  162. Bob

Whaddya know hairy? Your quickest bat on the team couldn’t catch up to ANOTHER 86mph fastball. Not that anyone ever took you seriously to begin with, but c’mon, that statement was plain ludicrous.

  163. David

It really is awesome to see the kids producing. Anyone who doesnt appreciate that isnt a true fan.

  164. Steve (The Original)

By the way, if Castro is going to have any more at-bats like the last one, the Mets might as well play Cancel.

  165. Tiffany

Yep. Bob’s getting tag-teamed for sure.

  166. Bob

Wow, the mets take a 2-1 lead and the vulva-swirler crew has taken off. Probably complaining about Joba injuring his shoulder due to his overweight frame on Abraham’s board.

  167. Ray Sadecki

Castros foot is obviously bothering him. Does Murphys arrival remind anybody of a young phenom who came up 20 years ago at the end of year?

  168. Bob

Steve: Gamecast shows Cancel in the game. Did you get your wish? Why was he removed?

  169. Bob

Ray… I’m only 23, but I assume you’re talking about Straw? It reminds me more of a young phenom who came up 4 years ago when Wiggy got the boot.

  170. David

    Bob,

Just continue to fight the good fight….

  171. tomg

I think ray meant Greg Jeffries there Bob, straw came up in 1984 or 85.

  172. Steve (The Original)

Bob: I’m sure he was removed due to his ankle. It was obvious that he couldn’t finish his swing because of it.

  173. Harry Chiti

I’m here Bob… wow… Darling was right. Castro is hurt…. Minaya, Mr Interim , Bernazard….Liars All…. Does any team play injured guys as much as the Mets do? Bob; TOMG was certainly right about you….

Soo Bob your not even watching the game…. your peaking on Gamecast…. Good bye….

  174. billy

Murphy does remind me of Jose Oquendo….

  175. billy

    Sorry, changed my mind…Mike Vail

  176. Bob

Harry Chiti, I sure am watching it on gamecast. The majority of us have jobs and aren’t on a summer vacation from high school. Must be nice.

  177. David

    Bob,

Dont get sucked into it. It’s really not worth it. God forbid a professional athlete try to play with some pain. It didnt work out.

  178. Ray Sadecki

Tom is correct, the answer is Jefferies. He came up at the end of ‘88 like a house afire. Hit rope after rope, and great things were predicted for him. I hope Murphys story ends up different.

  179. Bob

    David,

What’s funniest about this troll is he was criticizing Jerry earlier for not pinch hitting Castro last night when he sent up Argenis.

  180. Harry Chiti

Bob: Your name calling is as pitiful as ytour knowledge of baseball. And I hope your boss catches you stealing from him, becaue that is what you are doing.

  181. Steve (The Original)

Ray: I think Jefferies had a different future mapped out than Dan Murphy has. The comparison isn’t even close. Actually, I think the guy who said Mike Vail, is closer. Although you won’t find the Mets trading F-Mart or Church to make room for him. :-)

  182. Steve (The Original)

That’s the way an ace should do it!

  183. Bob

    Murphy! Murphy!!

  184. Bob

Hairy – that must be why you’re unemployed. There has to be some fast food joints looking for summer help.

  185. Steve (The Original)

The Mets had better score a run or two this inning.

  186. David

    Steve,

You beat me to the punch i was going to say the biggest difference is that Jeffries career path was that of a superstar thats why his .289 AVG and 1500+ hits in a 14 yr career seem disappointing.

Great to see a hit and run there and another good AB for murphy.

  187. Bob

We really need at least 3 runs here, hopefully Santana can go one more inning. That will leave the pen to get 6 outs for Johan, we need at least a 4 run cushion for that.

  188. Ray Sadecki

Vail was another one. Came up in late ‘75 and had a 23 game hitting streak. Heres our new star. Lets trade away Rusty and his 105 rbis we dont need him any more. Too bad Vail got hurt in a pickup basketball game and was never the same after. At least Jefferies had a decent career, including a great one in his walk off year with the Cardinals. I wish better things for our new phenom than with either of those 2.

  189. David

    Bob,

With first and third and your 8th hitter coming up i think 1 run 2 max is a more reasonable expectation.

  190. Bob

David: I agree, but with this bullpen, you have no choice but to expect the unexpected.

  191. Steve (The Original)

well it would have been nice to score more than one that inning, but I guess with the bottom of the order being up the one is all we really could have hoped for.

  192. Bob

Johan at 88 through 6, if we can get out of this inning at 10-15 pitches, you need to bring him back for 8. Let him go 120-125 against this lineup.

  193. Ray Sadecki

Anybody know the answer to the aflac question? last met to have 5 hits in first 10 abs? My guess is Wright.

  194. Bob

Ray… I’m going with Mike Jacobs, he had 4 home runs in his first four games.

  195. Bob

My gameday said Gerut reached on an infield single and then said grounded out to shortstop? Was something overturned or just a gameday error?

  196. Bob

Johan 98 through 7, there is NO EXCUSE NONE for not bringing him out for the 8th, someone let me know if anyone is up in the pen. The answer better be no!

  197. Steve (The Original)

Bob: I really hope that Santana comes out and pitches the 8th inning at least. The 7th was so uneventful and easy for him that he should be able to do it.

  198. David

Well Santana is definitely coming out for the 8th. And this is the right move especially with 8,9,1 coming up.

  199. Bob

My gameday is frozen after the leadoff single, pitching change? Johan has to be saying “here we go again.” No Heilman… No Heilman…

  200. Steve (The Original)

That’s pretty damn amazing. Maybe the Mets have always been right in pulling him after 7.

  201. Steve (The Original)

1st and 2nd no one out for the Padres. Sanchez is in

  202. Bob

At least Jerry gave us what we wanted. The fanbase including myself are not at liberty anymore to request 120 pitches from the man, he simply shuts down at 100, no two ways about it.

  203. matt B in AZ

bob- yea gameday has sucked lately i just watch espn gamecast. its like two minutes behind tho..

  204. JohnM

We should find out if Murphy can pitch out of the pen.

  205. Bob

Like I said, we NEEDED a four run cushion. Gonzalez is about to get those 4 runs right here.

  206. Steve (The Original)

    Get ready to jump everybody

  207. DT

Who fielded that ball hit by Giles? Scary but awesome that they got an out.

  208. Bob

OH MY GOD! DP! DP! WOWWWW It’s TOUGH being a mets fan… EXHALE

  209. Steve (The Original)

    JOE SMITH IS MY HERO!!!!

  210. Bob

Who’s warming for the 9th? Tell me Kunz… I don’t know why, but lets give the kid a chance.

  211. David

DP out of the inning lets put the wine and crackers away until the 9th at least.

  212. Bob

Wine and crackers? I wish. I roll with aciphex and tums.

  213. Who Needs Lohan

that was the ugliest/best DP i have ever seen all at once

  214. Derek

The way Manuel played the 8th…It’s Heilman again to try and get a save

  215. Bob

It’s GOT to be Kunz in the 9th. Heilman’s confidence is absolutely SHOT!

Think about this for a second…

If we were the club batting with the bases loaded and no outs, we’d be SOOO mad at the team only scoring one run in that inning. Yet, on the other side of things, we’re SOO mad that our bullpen gave up one run that inning. Oh…the fickleness of baseball.

  216. Who Needs Lohan

Thats the first time I remember a manager getting thrown out over the score card!

  217. Bob

    Ok.. What is going on?

  218. Bob

    Who is warming for us?

  219. David

    Show is warming up.

  220. Bob

    2 more 2 more…

  221. Bob

    oh my

  222. matt B in AZ

if here’s yet another opportunity for Show to take a step in the right direction

  223. JohnM

    Unbelievable.

  224. Steve (The Original)

    UNFREAKEN BELIEVABLE

  225. matt B in AZ

    ...

  226. matt B in AZ

    i still dont miss wagner

  227. Steve (The Original)

Excuse me while I throw some things…

  228. Stillsane

Santana should sue the entire relief staff for lack of support!

  229. matt B in AZ

steve- excuse me while Shoenweis get’s my computer monitor up his ***

  230. matt B in AZ

in an effort to avoid my notorious complaining ways, i’d like to point out that we put up ten hits today!

  231. Stillsane

The Met’s relievers are best at blowing the save and then getting out 1-2-3 for the rest of that inning. How many times after the lead is gone do we see them quickly get those outs. It is maddening. They really need to get a run in the bottom of the ninth because who knows what their pitching will do if it goes to the tenth?

  232. Bob

Well, expect the vulva swirling crew to come running back from the Yanks board now that the mets have blown another one. Heath Bell? Yeah, turn the lights off. How does a team that is 30 games under .500 have a better bullpen than us?

  233. Bob

Endy!!! hit and run? Please no bunt, this team can not get a RISP in with 1 out. Don’t attempt it, hit and run… please!!!

  234. Bob

So so so unbelievable!!! Well, here comes the strike out followed by the ground out.

  235. matt B in AZ

hey, here’s a riddle- “what does a mets starter get when he leaves the game with the lead, and places the fate of the game in the hands of the mets bullpen?”

  236. Who Needs Lohan

where is that Chiti guy now?

  237. Who Needs Lohan

Heilman gets the win, Heilman gets that win!

  238. Bob

WRIGHT!?? A CLUTCH HIT, MY EYES DECEIVE ME!!!

  239. matt B in AZ

OMIGOD we won a series against the worst team in baseball!

no more complaints from my end…today

  240. Steve (The Original)

I should go and throw things more often! :-)

  241. Bob

We definitely won’t hear from tomg now. Nope, no way, mets win in walk-off fashion and the players he wanted to sit today (Wright and Beltran) were 6 for 9 for 2R and 2RBI and the walk off home run. Thank God he stopped watching the games stay away, stay far far away.

  242. matt B in AZ

steve- after yesterday, and the day before, everything in my house has been thrown at least once.

  243. Bob

    My bad… I meant chiti…

  244. DT

    Awesome!

  245. DT

The Phillies are still losin’... I know we “win” either way with that game, but I would rather the Phills lose. That Marlins team is gonna run out of gas during the next two months. Phills seem to do the same at times, but they held on last year…

  246. Ray Sadecki

Nice call Lohan, on Wright having a big day. Sucks that Santana didnt get the win though. Those hits he gave up in the 8th werent hit hard and he was clearly pissed when Manuel came to get him. I wonder if he can hold his tongue one more time.

  247. tomg

Hey Bob, I kind of figured you were a young guy by the things you said. Grow up you little turd. I’m still here and I’m not going anywhere any time soon.

The mets placed schoenweis and sanchez on waivers and not one team claimed them. That pretty much tells you what the rest of the league thinks of these two
    guys.

  248. Bob

Ray… hold his tongue? I’d think so, since he threw David under the bus, I think someone Jerry/Sandy talked to him and let him know that was unacceptable. I feel bad for the man, but really, it’s only a stat… His ERA + K/BB ratio is still pretty amazing.

  249. tomg

    Bob,
“definitely won’t hear from tomg now. Nope, no way, mets win in walk-off fashion and the players he wanted to sit today (Wright and Beltran) were 6 for 9 for 2R and 2RBI and the walk off home run. Thank God he stopped watching the games stay away, stay far far away.”

    Players i wanted to sit??
I would love to see where I said that today. Dude, do you know how to read?

  250. Bob

tomg: Don’t be mad that we exposed your little summer vacation from high school. For someone that is against name calling, I have to admit, using “little turd” is extremely creative. Funny how you disappeared when the team started doing well… you said you were going to stop watching, so since you don’t watch the Mets anymore, we’d appreciate if you stopped commenting. You bring nothing credible to the discussion and have been called out by JD numerous times for posting your nonsense on this board. You’re not going anywhere soon? Funny, this morning you said “I’m not watching this team for the rest of the season.” Not only are you in high school, but you also suffer from bi-polar disorder. Boy, I feel really badly for JD that your out of school for the summer.

  251. Bob

tomg: Not only are you bi-polar, but you must also be blind. Bad combination. Or did you just choose not to read:

    Bob August 7th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

    My bad… I meant chiti…

  252. Bob

Then again, everyone on this blog knows that tomg and hairy chity and Pat are all the same person. You use three monikers so you can give the false impression that people actually agree with the statements you make. You get banned everyday and always reappear the next day. You need school in your life, badly.

  253. tomg

    Bob,
everybody is a tough guy behind a keyboard. I’m not impressed with your nonsense, grow up already.

  254. Steve (The Original)

Bob and Tom G: Enough already. Let’s talk about the Mets and be done with it.

Stat I saw over at Metsblog from one of the posters:

The Mets have blown 6 potential Santana wins in 23 starts, while the Twins bullpen blew 6 potential wins in 100 starts for Santana.

So, yes though we would all like to see him pitch 9 each game, the fact is that he should have at least 4 more wins added to his record. He is now pitching like the Ace we got.

  255. Bob

tomg: summer school? go back to abraham’s blog pissed off that the mets won. Hey Good luck with your yankees tonight, I know that walk-off by Wright really soiled your day. Better luck cheering for Anibal Sanchez and the marlins big guy.

  256. tomg

Bob, I’m done with you and your nonsense. I don’t want to ruin this blog for others. If you feel the urge to act like an asshole than we can arrange where to meet and I would love to settle this like man. Can you handle that Bob.

  257. Bob

tomg: I agree that you need to stop ruining the blog. You proposed the perfect solution this morning stating you were done watching this team and you would be leaving, so why you’re still here I am not too sure. However, I believe calling me an a-hole and threatening to meet up to assault one another by “settle this like man” is a violation of delcos TOS which I’ve copied and posted below:

that you do not: Use the site to post or transmit any unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous, defamatory, obscene, vulgar, pornographic, profane or indecent information of any kind

By the way, “settle this like man” sounds like a new promo for a Geico spot.

  258. Who Needs Lohan

thanks ray! Santana may request a trade back to the AL soon! Also, J Reyes needs to be pulled aside on his bunting technique. A sacrafice is a sacrafice, he tries to run before he bunts and it pissed me off.

    Santana does NOT look happy!

  259. Bob

    tomg August 7th, 2008 at 8:57 am

i have no passion to watch this team play or feel like this team will make a run to win the division.

    GAME OVER.

  260. tomg

Bob, again you twist words around that I said. I asked you to meet me so we can discuss this face to face but I already new what your answer was going to be, no big surprise.

  261. Bob

“I already ‘new’ what your answer was going to be, no big surprise.”

Wow. Just wow. Tell ya what, I’m going to be at the game this Saturday and Sunday tailgating underneath the tunnel across from the main gate. There’s my answer, can you make it? I’ll be the guy in the custom Joe Smith #35 jersey. It’s up to you…

  262. Bob

tomg: I Didn’t twist around your words. I copy and pasted what you posted this morning. It’s funny you say that, you actually copied and pasted something that you claimed was written by me, but you changed the grammar around beforehand, pathetic.

  263. tomg

Yea, ok, Bob and I have a bridge to sell you.

Bob, you mentioned that I said to sit beltran and wright, never said it bob.

i have no passion to watch this team play or feel like this team will make a run to win the division.

    GAME OVER.

tomg: My actual post was, “go back to your summer school English class, learn to use proper grammar please”

You stated that my post was: “go back to summer school English class to learn proper grammar”

Then you proceeded to tell me that I needed to go back to summer school.

Men lie. Women lie. Time stamped posts do not.

  266. Who Needs Lohan

Im gonna meet both of you there and put this to an end!

  267. tomg

    Who Needs Lohan ,

seriously, is this a bad dream. I’ve been posting on this blog since spring training and I won’t stop because some 23 year old wise guy doesn’t like what I posted, enough said, I’m done. Knock yourself out Bob.

  268. dave

So i come here to find the Bob and Tomg show..

The bullpen has issues again and Aaron redeems himself.

The good news is that our ACE is continueing to do his part.

  269. Bob

tomg: JD has asked you numerous times to stop posting, just the other day he told you that you used to bring something somewhat insightful here to the blog, but now you just use it to hate on the mets when they’re losing and disappear when they’re winning. I guess the one exception is you stick around after blown saves whether they win or lose, because you can still hate on the bullpen. Take a hike.

  270. Bob

23 year old wise guy, I’ll remind everyone that you wrote:

“Bob needs to get some, LOL, If you know what I mean” like a 15 year old chick. Dude, you’re on summer vacation, no need to make personal attacks at my age and call me a wise guy because I don’t meet your pessimistic standards.

  271. Tiffany

You have a customized Joe Smith jersey?

  272. Who Needs Lohan

Tiffany, that was subtly the post of the day! Im not sure you meant for it to be as funny as it was, but bravo nonetheless!!!

  273. matt B in AZ

despite what i said earlier, i’d rather have Show in the ninth than anyone else.

  274. David

    Matt,

The 9th is and will continue to be a crap shoot. I would be surprised to see Joe Smith in the 9th at some point this weekend with the Marlins heavy righty lineup. It is what it is at this point so buckle up and ejooy the ride.

  275. JohnM

I bet Bob will be tailgating under the tunnel Saturday and Sunday with his friend who has a Joe Smith jersey. That would be hysterical.

  276. G-fan

To any NY Giants fan that’s watching the game chime in to the Giants Journal blog.

  277. Harry Chiti

Wonder why the Yankee site has 10 times the posts as this., Its because of pukes like Bob. Hope you get caught and fired real soon. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy than you.

  278. Bob

Tiffany—yes I do, I bought it last year when he was called up and got off to that ridiculous start. My collection of mets jerseys are full of rare ones, I’m not a fan of wearing what everyone else has (i.e. wright, reyes, beltran)

  279. Tiffany

When will you treat yourself to a Ruddy Lugo jersey?

  280. Bob

Probably shortly after I receive my Daniel Murphy jersey :)

  281. Bob

    After my Daniel Murphy.

  282. HARM

go mets there the best wooooooooo mets rock go delgodoo last night +let go mets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The Amazing Mets.
