By all accounts, and that includes Jerry Manuel, Dan Warthen and Guy Conti, the expectations will be limited tonight. He’ll go 80 as the ceiling. His velocity has been good, but since he hasn’t pitched since July 12, the feeling is his command will be off.
Conti is especially close with Martinez and said the time he spent with his father prior to his death went a lontg way toward the healing process.
“Mentally, he’s doing good,” Conti said. “He made his peace with his father.”
