-We might get a better idea of whether John Maine will make his next start. I am inclined to take advantage of the off days and rest him.
-More BP for Ryan Church today. He doesn’t seem as lethargic as before. The feeling is he will do rehab games over the weekend and be activated next week.
-Question: Does anybody miss Luis Castillo?

Luis who?
I mention this after the game. I saw chruch after the game last night in the celebratory line and it was really refreshing just from a non baseball point of view to see him out there bumping into teammates and just horsing around.
The castillo thing is something to watch because I think right now he’s out of sight out of mind and everyone probably Jerry Manuel included would like to keep it that way.
Jules – You took the words right off of my keyboard.
isnt that the guy that used to play for the marlins? did he retire? lol
I actually miss Castillo. I don’t think the winning streak has anything to do with him not being there, UNLESS…he is considered to be a clubhouse cancer. Getting him back would free up Easley for the bench and would therefore make the bench stronger. It would also allow Easley to help in the OF from time to time. Let’s not forget Castillo was at the very least getting on base for the team and I didn’t think his defense was awful. IF his knees are much better, then I think he’d be welcomed back.
...with the way the pen has been lately, I’m almost curious where Matt Wise dissapeared to?
I miss Castillo. If he is a little more rested, his knees will be better. He hit well with RISP, he got on base, he saw a lot of pitches. Even if he was a clubhouse problem, Manuel doesn’t seem to allow problems to fester like Randolph.
J_K,
When castillo is right he is the ideal 2 hitter i think most people would agree with that. The problem is with Church on the shelf for the forseable future and endy hitting at .300 clip in the 2 hole Easley is the better fit in the lineup at this moment.
In the long run though, I do agree that Castillo has to be the guy as Easley is more valuable coming off the bench.
JD, Maine is suppose to have a BP session (I assume at Shea since he won’t join the team until Friday in Hou). Will they give the media an update on his BP?
Even if he does that BP, I doubt he will pitch Sunday. He can essentially be on the DL (12 days) w/o being on the DL and pitch a week from Saturday or Sunday w/the off days I believe.
Castillo
If he is ready to play, he is gonna have to start b/c he provides nothing as a bench player except to bunt since he has no pop and his wheels are bad.
Castillo
Aren’t there rules on how long a guy can rehab so that he is not stuck in never never land?
If so, Castillo will have to join the team at some point unless he has a relapse w/his leg or another injury.
And get use to him or tolerate him more b/c he is gonna be around for awhile. I don’t see Mets getting rid of him b/c they’d have to eat $$.
A) DL John Maine and bring up Niese for 1-2 starts
B) Dump Castillo to anyone who’ll take him provided the NY Mets eat over half his salary
C) Can’t wait for Church to return, but I hope he will be fully healed….if activated and he plays a couple of games and the symptoms return, this guy has got to be put on the 60 day DL and the NY Mets must move on
D) I do not want to give up FMart, Niese, Kunz, or Murphy. Carp and Evans can go with Sho and/Heilman in a trade to get us relief help and OF help….Mets should not go above the Ibanez/Winn level of OFers, however
Jose Guillen, outfielder from KC for Luis Castillo straight up!
Dave – are we trading our headache for their headache? Do the Royals even need a 2B? If so, I would do that….even throw in a mid-level prospect!
The royals would never do that, lets be serious. The yankees are playing right now, fat slob joba is already losing 1-0. Guess I’ll be watching gamecast cheering for an orioles sweep and reading manny/trade rumors for the rest of the afternoon at work.
Trade deadline
If you ever wanted to know why many are against the Mets making a trade at the deadline, just check out this 10 worst trades at the deadline story. 4 of the 10 are Met trades or have Omar’s fingers on them…

Scoop: Castillo has a better OBP by about 40 points with relatively the same power supplied so far by Easley.
So, who would have thunk that Mike Pelfrey would have the chance to become the team’s first 10-game winner this year?
i say forget castillo, this team is doing better without him and his double-plays. (the ones he grounds into, not the ones he turns) for once, this mets team should leave in some young talent, argenis reyes, and see if he does anything. if not, then we have easley, who i’d take over castillo any day, regardless of statistics.
tiffany- he would have won 12 games by now if it weren’t for billy wagner.
and who would you rather have right now-
the RECENT, surging Carlos Delgado, or newly traded Mark Texiera? not that we’re going to get him, obviously…
Luis Castillo is possibly the worst hitter in baseball. Anyone that says they miss him is obviously not a Mets fan. He brings solid defense, but on a team that did not hit all year with him, the Mets are much better with Argenis Reyes and Easley platooning there. Release Castillo and eat the money. I hope he doesn’t come back
Id rather have an A.Reyes/Easley platoon the rest of the way and have the Mets eat the money. Swallow your pride Omar.
Wow and the Yanks get Ivan Rodriguez. It’s funny how EVERY team is getting what they want, filling their names. The Yanks get rid of Farnsworth and get the catcher they wanted? They were given a gift-wrapped trade of Marte and Nady? What are the Mets doing to improve? NOTHING. ALL RUMORS, NO ACTION. Our biggest DEADLINE trade was thanks to a panic move that ran X-Man out of town that returned Ollie has a throw in. Why does Omar bother talking to anyone at the deadline? HE NEVER MAKES A DEAL. Unless it’s trading for an over the hill injury prone scrub like castillo.
Who does Castillo play for?
I like Easley/AReyes for the rest of the year.
Tiffany,
I agree. Said something similar last week when I realized his numbers put him as arguably the #2 pitcher on the team.
As bad as the skanks getting Irod is, how about Manny Ramirez to the Marlins. Espn and Fox have said that Florida is the frontrunner to get him. Mets are not even in the conversation, Apparently. FMart better turn out to be one helluva player.
I will go against the board on Castillo. He is a quality player when healthy. Even though he was slumping badly before going on the DL, His OBP is still over.360. Hopefully his Knees feel better now and he can help the team down the stretch.
