Mets are facing Kyle Lohse, who is 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA in five career starts against them. Lohse beat the Mets earlier this season, allowing a run (not earned) in seven innings with four strike outs in a 7-1 win. That was on June 30.
Not much to report today in the pregame session with Jerry Manuel.
– Pedro Martinez is tentatively slated to start Friday in Houston. But that’s up in the air. Manuel said Pedro will “hopefully probably” start. He also said Pedro would need to pitch a little in a minor league game, either Tuesday or Wednesday, to be ready to throw 75-80 pitches on Friday. – Ryan Church will travel with the team to Florida tonight. But Manuel doesn’t expect Church will play a game during the six-game road trip. He’ll have a light workout today at Shea. Once in Florida, he’ll likely stay down there and work out in Port St. Lucie. He could play a minor league game, as Manuel said: “On Tuesday… or Wednesday… or Thursday.” With Church at this point, always assume the latest. – Brandon Knight was designated for assignment after his efforts last night. The Mets promoted RHP Willie Collazo. Take this for what it’s worth, but Manuel said they would have probably kept Knight on the roster had they not emptied the bullpen last night. Collazo is just an arm they need. – Billy Wagner is expected to be available today. Not Aaron Heilman.Check back for updates throughout the game. Beautiful day, as of right now, after a rainy morning. Tarp is off and we’ll start on time.

I guess Im hitting leadoff today. It will be nice to get some contributions from Pedro and Church. A lot of talk about the Mets getting Ibanez, but I dont see him as an upgrade over Tatis. He has been Mr. Clutch all year.
This is getting ridiculous. Does anybody want to blog today?
Great job by Santana, this outing reminded me why we pay him 22 million a year. Nice to see the offense score some runs for him as well.
Ray –
I live in a part of CT where there is no SNY, and FOX and ESPN black out the Mets games. Channel eleven broadcasts a couple of Mets games a month, and this was one of those days where I could actually watch the team, so I did.
And, what a game it was. Surprisingly, after losing a lengthy game last night, the Mets had reinvigorated themselves for this afternoon.
Santana was golden, animated and even smiled after he pitched a terrific complete game to help rest his bullpen. He pitches, he hits, he runs – he’s a complete player and was rewarded with a standing O from the Mets fans – some of the toughest fans in the baseball world.
The rest of the team took their cue from Johan and simply turned it all on…
These are the games we wait for. Congratulations to the whole team and have a safe trip to MIA.
Super game. It was great to beat Lohse. The way they are playing, they should have swept the last two series!! (Phils and Cards).
Great to see Santana step up and be the ACE we need.
Great game by Santana and the offense today. Now onto a big series against the Marlins. Let’s keep it going.
Despite the schizophrenic weather, that was about as much fun as I’ve ever had at the old ballpark. I admit that I’m getting spoiled with these Sunday pitching performances. Ollie against the Yanks, Big Pelf against the Rockies, and Johan today. Wow!
Johan was smart enough to insist on finishing the game this time. If he had done so last time, he would have probably won that game too.
JD – When did you become Kevin Devaney Jr.?
A very nice game. This team is getting more confident with every game. That being said this next series is big. The Fish are most likely thinking this is their ticket to 1st place.
Braves are just awful now. Phillies win. It is going to be a good race. I think these Mets can come out on top. They need to make a statement in Florida. I mean Florida – the only baseball that should be played there is spring training.
Question – Does this happen because Willie is gone? Or was it destined to happen either way>
Personally I think this team could never get past last September with Willie there. He also had alienated, according to the press, at least two very important cogs, Delgado and Reyes. He is a class act but as all managers eventually do, he lost the clubhouse.
What about that running catch by Beltran to rob Ludwick of a home run? It was one of the best I’ve seen in a while. Great timing by Carlos to get the leap just right and not injure himself – probably got a little lucky in that regard.
This was a complete game in more ways than one. Hope there’s more to come.
Annie, as I have said before it is not legal for your condo assoc to prevent you from getting a dish. I would demand it.
Great game for the Mets. That is two in a row that Santana pitched like the ace we met fans thought we were getting. Keep it up Johan. I couldn’t post yesterday because here on eastern long island we had wizard of Ozz weather and lost power, trees, etc. let’s go Mets.
Hopefully the Mets can swat away the Marlins. Would love for a sweep, but would love to take 2 of 3. I am shocked at the way they have hung in there. With Anibel Sanchez coming back to go with this kid Volstad, plus Josh Johnson, Olsen, and Nolasco (who the Mets have handled pretty well the past few years,) the Marlin team is going to be reckoned with.
Through Monday, Aug. 18, USA Luge is offering an exclusive on-line auction that will give the winning bidder and three guests the opportunity to watch pre-game batting practice on the field and then cheer the team from field box seats behind home plate as they host their rival Atlanta Braves. The auction’s winner and guests will also receive four Mets t-shirts, yearbooks and magazine programs as well as official USA Luge merchandise.

Are you the Ray Sadecki that played for the Mets back in 73?
