Update – We just met with Jerry Manuel. Here are a couple of the interesting things he said:
– Sanchez is probably not available today. Manuel said the righty has lost velocity from earlier in the season. The team thinks he may be hitting the wall a little since he hadn’t pitched in two years. The Mets may put him on a program to regain his arm strength. … Manuel also thinks Sanchez has suffered with his conditioning since he was hit in the knee by a batted ball on the last play of a win over the Dodgers a few weeks back.
– Manuel is “less optimistic” about acquiring a bat after Xavier Nady was dealt to the Yankees and Casey BlakE was sent to LA.
– Cancel is catching Knight because he caught him a couple times in New Orleans. Knight could stay with the team (and not play in Beijing) if he pitches well tonight.
– Manuel doesn’t think Carlos Beltran needs a day off. He and HoJo are going to work with Beltran this afternoon to try and correct a couple mechanical flaws they think may be troubling Carlos.
Hey this is Josh Thomson in for John today. It is a couple minutes before the clubhouse opens up. If the Mets are to maintain their hot streak they will have to do it behind callup Brandon Knight.

This is Cancels first start since 9/29/99 when he caught for Milwaukee in a home game against Pittsburgh. Hope he remembers how to warmup. Geez. … Brandon Knight, at 32, will make his first in 6 years. Some battery.
