Pregame – Mets vs. Cards, Game 2

July
26

Update – We just met with Jerry Manuel. Here are a couple of the interesting things he said:

– Sanchez is probably not available today. Manuel said the righty has lost velocity from earlier in the season. The team thinks he may be hitting the wall a little since he hadn’t pitched in two years. The Mets may put him on a program to regain his arm strength. … Manuel also thinks Sanchez has suffered with his conditioning since he was hit in the knee by a batted ball on the last play of a win over the Dodgers a few weeks back. – Manuel is “less optimistic” about acquiring a bat after Xavier Nady was dealt to the Yankees and Casey BlakE was sent to LA. – Cancel is catching Knight because he caught him a couple times in New Orleans. Knight could stay with the team (and not play in Beijing) if he pitches well tonight. – Manuel doesn’t think Carlos Beltran needs a day off. He and HoJo are going to work with Beltran this afternoon to try and correct a couple mechanical flaws they think may be troubling Carlos.

Hey this is Josh Thomson in for John today. It is a couple minutes before the clubhouse opens up. If the Mets are to maintain their hot streak they will have to do it behind callup Brandon Knight.

Lineup -

7 Reyes, SS

10 Chavez, RF

5 Wright, 3B

21 Delgado, 1B

15 Beltran, CF

17 Tatis, LF

40 Cancel, C

4 A. Reyes, 2B

28 Knight, P

Notes -

This is Cancels first start since 9/29/99 when he caught for Milwaukee in a home game against Pittsburgh. Hope he remembers how to warmup. Geez. … Brandon Knight, at 32, will make his first in 6 years. Some battery.

im getting really aggravated about all these trades that are happening i just heard that the yanks traded for Washburn…they got a starter who is a veteran and pitched in big games and a bat for the outfield and a dominant lefty for there already beast bullpen…..why cant Omar do this type of thing…we just dont have enough spects….we need a big bat i hope omar just does something

Cap – Where did you hear that from. I do not see it on the usual sites, nor did they announce it on fox.

  3. Ray Sadecki

Fox pregame said yankees were aiming for washburn. They did not announce a trade. I am sure they will get another starter. They still have plenty of chips to trade as they got Nady for a song.

Lots of talk on fox about sox are tired of Manny being Manny. Thier GM had the announcer relay over national TV that He will trade manny if he releases his no trade clause. Is Omar waiting in the weeds, ready to pounce?

Guys, enough why the mets can’t do this and do that. The reason why the Mets aren’t making trades is because there farm system is depleted and they don’t have much to trade. The few the mets have Omar is right not to trade them because than there farm system will be totally emptied. That’s why!!!!

Good to see the offense come back and get 2 of those run back for Knight. Hope he got the jitters out and can give the team a few solid innings and allow them to come back.
