Well I’ll lead off with the comments today. I’m not ready to sink this team after two losses to a Cincy team that has been playing well. However, more than anything I’d like the Mets to play more crisp baseball win or lose.
Its a real shame after 3 very good at bats by Wright and the Carlos’s that the waste of a uniform Marlon Anderson gives a way an AB and a chance to do some real damage against a very hood pitcher.
Marlon Anderson – Why? So far this year he has been of no appreciable value having a sub 210 average and being a less than average fielder. The Mets are not serious about winning while still carrying him.
1) Omar needs to get off his ass and help Jerry out a bit.
2) Chavez cannot hit elite hitting, and pairing him with Castro who usually doesn’t hit elite pitching is just asking for a bad day. Considering Pelf is a groundball pitcher I don’t understand this.
I’d certainly rather have Dunn out in left than Marlon Anderson based on what I’ve seen lately.
Absolutely BH – Nice come back by Pelfry after giving up the big fly.
so i guess timely hitting is now the problem.
looks like its time for marlon to earn back your respect
Marlon Anderson – Another quality at bat with a runner in scoring position.
Nice hit Castro!
lol Castro made me eat my words….
stillsane- i take it marlon didn’t earn your respect…
but that was big on castro’s part, we need this win because the phillies are going to win today.
Matt B – Marlon has showed me why the LA Dodgers let him go last year. The said part is he was actually hitting better with them (.231), than he is now. He is also a left handed hitter with almost no power so I really do not know what he brings to the table for the club.
Marlon Anderson – Another quality play.
Right now Marlon Anderson is the best player for the Reds
I would cut him in the middle of the inning.
Do you think Marlon’s frolicking in the left field sun got Pelfrey a little unnerved? I do.
Well this is a shame for Pelfrey while he hasnt pitched as well as he has been, he deserves better this inning.
I hope Edwin gets a facefull of baseball next time up for that bat flip.
these are the mets i remember!!!
dammit…i just dropped encarnacion from my fantasy team…
I agree with you David. I also hope the Mets can get a lead again so that the Reds can also be pitched a little inside. The throw over Pelfey’s head, pitching real inside to Wright and hitting A. Reyes should not be left out there without a little payback.
Hold the cab for Marlon, at least until after the top of the inning.
This team is what it is….a bunch of overpaid losers who don’t care about anything. That little streak they were on is starting to look more and more like an abberation as they’ve spent this series proving they are the textbook mediocre .500 team. This is pathetic
Fish just tied up the Phillies from the Good news department.
Someone should put a ball in Phillips back next time he’s up with his longing gaze after that shot
Anderson should be cut today- Jerry should have pulled him from the game
Right now, the Mets have to do it with hitting the ball, not the Reds. I agree the showboating is low class.
Well this is the shot you want before you get into the backend of their bullpen with the heart of the order up, Hopefully they can get the big hit.
Good hit Delgado! Marlon Anderson is out of the game! Let’s go Mets!
Man, I’m convinced on Delgado, I’m even thinking about next year… and that is shocking…
Nice job by Delgaldo after looking foolish on the 2-0 curveball.
Kevin,
While im very pleased with Delgaldo there is no way you can even consider brining him back unless he takes a much lower figure and even that would be a fall back option IMO.
Yeah I would agree with that, It’ll be hard to sell him that smaller number as well, I’d say if you gave him a 2 year deal worth maybe 10 and then 8 mil… I could live with that
Kevin,
2 Years is asking for trouble. While he may have turned a corner for this season you need to seriously look at what his performance will be in 2 years time. On top of that the Mets really need to start getting younger not locking up older guys.
I agree, I just don’t see him taking a one year deal
Yeah a lot also depends on what the makeup of the rest of the team will be. If they can get younger in some other areas such as 2B and LF, then maybe you can afford to go older at 1B.
The resurrection of Delgado has been something to see. Maybe it was injuries. I believe the team has an option on him for 16 mil if they want to keep him one more year.
You know it was good to see that on a day where pelfrey wasnt as sharp as he has been and his defense letting him down in the one big inning. That he was still able to give the Mets 7 Innings which is a nice little boost to the pen.
Wow great to see Beltran running in that spot.
Why did Tatis not follow Beltran?
I’m so sick of never getting a call
Florida just won. Go Mets!
Bad weather in the area… Wags better finish this quick
good to see billie using the offspeed stuff to good effect
As Johnny Drama would say “VICTORY!”
Alright boys you know what they didnt play great this series and we’re able to split with a team that has been playing well. Take the day off and take control on the homestand.
considering all the bad stuff with delgado, i am ready to go in another direction. he has done well the past few weeks, but he is slow, is a liability in the field, and does not hit for avg.
we have castillo locked up for 3 more years and i think anderson for one more.
I am not looking forward to any of them coming back
Good win by the Mets. This team looks like they have turned the corner. Hopefully we get church back healthy and Omar can make a minor deal for a left fielder. If this team can stay healthy the rest of the year i like our chances. It’s amazing, met fans on this blog think met fans have been critically brutal on this blog. The Mets had a historical collapse last year so it’s understandable. The Phillies won the division last year and has been in first place for most of this season.
If you really want to see brutal fans go over to the “beerleaguer” blog (Phillies Blog) and see how they talk about there team, you would think they are the3 nationals for goodness sake.
Tomg, I went to beerleaguer to see their reaction to the Blanton trade. They are not too happy about it. We will see Big Joe tuesday night. It will be his first game for the phils. It will be interesting to see the reception he gets, especially if the Mets rough him up a little. Another nice win today by the fighting Metsies !!
Ray Sadecki,
I love reading the Phillies blog. I get a kick out of there fans. About Delgado, you are 100% correct. Delgado has one year left which is next year at 16 mil. If the mets don’t want him next year they can buy him out for 4 mil. I would be the first to admit, I gave up on delgado since the first month of last year and had killed him. I thought for sure he was washed up but he has turned a 360 at the plate. This is a very pleasant surprise to me. Hopefully he stays healthy and can keep it up.
If you wanna keep Anderson around to pinch-hit in garbage situations where you’re just pinch-hitting because the pitcher’s leaving anyway? That’s fine…
But for God’s sake, you can’t start this guy. He can’t field anywhere and he can’t hit much.
Please please please please… you can’t pick up Delgado’s option. You just can’t, not just because of a coupla good months. The age and the injuries will catch back up again.
They will. I’m thankful he’s performing right now but you CAN’T count on it.
When (or should I say if) Church comes back, I would not be surprised if Marlon A is DFA.
He is not contributing and there are only two other guys that can go down-Cancel and A Reyes.
Cancel is probably #1 candidate and Marlon has got to be #2 to be DFA as long as Castillo is MIA and A Reyes continues to contribute.
Not a great 4 games. As I stated a few days ago the Mets have to put some distance b/w themselves and Phils over the first 30 (now 26) games while their sched is easier than Phils.
2 of 3 is imperative this wk. You would think adv Mets w/Santana, Maine, OP vs Blanton, Moyers, and a just back Myers.
But Mets don’t hit Moyers and Myers from what I recall and I believe Blanton pitched a good game vs Mets last yr.
I would keep reyes.
he brings energy and i want to see what he can do
JD – any truth to that wagner flew back 2 ny for a mri on his shoulder?
Here is what Twinks is talking about!!!
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080720&content_id=3164254&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
If I was the Mets I would seriously consider trading Wagner in the off season and sign K-Rod, he is younger, better than Wagner and he will become a free agent at the end of the season.
If there is something wrong with Wagner then he lied to me. I asked him point blank if there was something wrong with his shoulder and he said he was fine. He did finish the inning without any problem.-JD
John, they’ve said he experienced shoulder tightness. He might miss the first game of the Phillies series and he says he has been dealing with the issue for a couple of weeks now.
John, is there any reason why the Mets are still giving any at bats whatsoever to Marlon Anderson? The man is done. After his laziness in the outfield started off Pelfrey’s bad inning in the fourth…you would expect a guy who 1) can’t hit 2) can’t field 3) can’t run wouldn’t still be on this team. I know it is a lot to cut Marlon Anderson with a year remaining on his contract but it has to be done.
Of course we all know if the Mets cut him he’ll become a useful pinch-hitter for some other team but it’s obvious he won’t do it here. He needs to either be traded or cut. Since it’s unlikely he can be traded with another year remaining on his deal it seems obvious: cut him now. Cancel has contributed more in 7 at bats this season than Marlon has.
I would rather have Evans play LF or make a trade for just a decent LFer to complement Marlon than this. Last night watching Maine…a flyball pitcher…turn around and look at an outfield of Tatis and Anderson in the corners…it was playing with fire. While it was Maine’s walks and his frustration with the HP’s moving strike zone that effected the game’s outcome more…I’m afraid that Maine had to be unnerved by those two statues out in the field.
Marlon Anderson just has to be cut, and John Rodriguez could be called up to take his place. The guy is 30 years old but has been raking at New Orleans. That’s something, at least he was hitting somewhere, and we know we can’t say the same about Marlon Anderson. In fact looking at the NO roster we have a lot of guys who are there and are killing the ball. None of them can do a worse job than Marlon, in the field or at the plate.
I wouldn’t sign K-Rod. No doubt he is nasty, but I just can’t see him holding up. He’s already thrown a ton of innings and he has a very violent delivery.
I second Kalyan Pokala’s feelings about Anderson.
My concern with K-Rod is less that he’ll breakdown… he looks good when I watch ‘em on teevee out here… my concern’s more that no matter how good he is, the Mets would have to overpay for him.
But yeah, Anderson, throw him wherever they threw Julio Franco and should throw Luis Casbanjo and don’t look back.
If they lie about the little things, they’ll lie about anything.
Tom G: I spoke to one of my friends who is a season ticket holder for the Angels. K-Rod’s FB is down by 3 mph and his slider has been very hittable this year. Even though his numbers are what they are, he hasn’t been a shut down closer this year. He has had plenty of outings that have given the Angel fans heart attacks! Also, he’s going to ask for a ton of money next year. I say ride it out with Wagner next year and see what happens.
Steve (The Original),
I didn’t know that. If that is the case than I wouldn’t touch him.
