Mets Chat Room: One eye on the game; one eye on Pedro.

Oliver Perez tonight for the Mets as they try to get it rolling again. I had somebody with the Mets tell me that “we’ve had our streak, now is when we’ll find out about us.” Makes sense. They were flawless when they won 10 straight. They were horrible before that.
They need to show they are more than a .500 team, and they need to show they are more than a .536 team, which is what they are now.

Makes sense to me. In 1990 the Mets started 20-23 and Davey Johnson was fired. They went into a hot streak under Bud Harrelson (helped by Dave Magadan replacing "day-to-Day" Mike Marshall) for two months going 38-18. Fools like me thought we were ready to cruise. Instead they went 33-30 the last two months to finish four behind the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Marlins won today so we can gain ground.
Wow does that quote hit the nail on the head. It will be interesting to see how they come out and play now that the euphoria of the winning streak is over.
I wouldnt say they were horrible before the 10 game streak. That's a little extreme.
Completely unprofessional by the Reds organization…after they bump the start time the team STILL delays the start. I hope karma smacks them hard tonight.
isn't the fourth where Johan and maine started struggling…now perez walks the first two
Matt: Horrible, extreme? Perhaps. But, they had a losing record. If you have a better word, by all means.-JD
Tatis caught that ball. That's a horrible call. Third base ump saying he didn't see it. He's gotta hustle his butt down the line then. Perez can't let this bother him. Good job by him.-JD
You know rather than instant replay how bout we get some umpires who are in shape and can get themselves in position to make the right calls.
David: That could be a start. Or, how about adding an ump down each line. MLB has the money to do it.-JD
Haven't seen Pedro yet. Wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't throw until tomorrow. BTW: That's first career extra-base hit by Perez.-JD
I don't pay much attention to The Men in Blue but I don't think there are any "real fat" umpires like John McSherry or Eric Gregg anymore, are there?
I don't know, but they sure are bad at making correct calls tonight… Easley looked safe to me
Pedro has appeared, he's playing catch in the pen now.-JD
who ticked the umps off before the game, there trying to make a difference in this game. Tatis robbed on the catch, Beltran robbed on the double play and Ollie getting squeezed while as long as the catcher gets his mitt on it Fogg gets a strike…...
Hi John –
I'm glad David stayed away from the Home Run Derby and saved those homers for the Mets games. I would have loved to see him pitch though – was Clint Hurdle serious about that or just tweaking David?
I know that Sandy Koufax is well known for avoiding public appearances, but what about Seaver, Ryan, Bench and so many others who didn't show for the Hall of Famers at the All Star Game? It was my favorite part of the evening.
What on Earth was David Wright looking at
Why are these guys looking at called strike threes, foul it off try again if its close – their looking to walk a run in when there the 3-4 hitters
Welcome back mets, I hope you had a good 2 week vacation
I cant believe what Im watching….. There Back,,,,,
edfever: Strike three.-JD
The Mets won 10 straight because they didn't beat themselves. They beat themselves tonight in all phases of the game.-JD
It's truly amazing how horribly the team has played the last two days… Bad pitching, terrible defense, and most of all, horrible, horrible, unclutch hitting…
I can understand getting only 2 off of Arroyo since he's always owned us… but JOSH FOGG?? WTH?!?
They have to win tomorrow, period…
Good thing we pinch hit for endy
who put the bad news bears in mets uniforms
Everytime we have intentionally walked someone this series, I believe they have scored… maybe we should try a different approach.
Oh my god, I can not take Jeff Brantley for a second longer… if you listened to him, you would think that the Reds were 26 games over .500 and a lock for the world series
I came across this blog the other day and you got some great info here – thanks.
When is Church coming back? Keppinger having another great game (sigh)
The streak was lovely.
How much the streak was a sign of reality, though… yeeeah.
Part of it, I'm sure, is the team's absolutely insane home-away split. Some home games, again, will help… I hope.
The Mets have played bad in all 3 games of this series. They were fortunate to rally against Cordero on Thursday, but that wasn't a good game either.
They have to snap out of it and tomorrow is going to be a big game with Pelfrey going against Volequez and the Phils have Hamels going.
