On Tap Today: What’s up with Pedro?

Sitting in the press box, watching Jerry Manuel and Guy Conti walking on the warning track. No doubt they are talking about Pedro Martinez. Conti told me last night he expected Martinez in town today, but with Pedro, who really knows?
Martinez is supposed to throw tomorrow or the next day in the pen, with a decision to follow on Tuesday. I’m banking no on him starting against the Phillies. To think this won’t be drawn out is contrary to everything that has gone on with Martinez since coming to the Mets.
Also:
-I agree with some posters on Johan Santana. No excuses. For $137.5 million, the Mets damn well better find a place for him to throw during the break.
-Luis Castillo is eligible to come off the disabled list today. Not happening.

I’ll excuse him. Sports is about conditioning and repetition, if he’s conditioned his body to have that bullpen before he pitches and he doesn’t get that bullpen? Well then sub-consciously his body won’t allow him to pitch well.
I’m still of the believer that a 3.10 ERA is awesome, and that awesomeness is a fact because he’s 8th in the league in ERA, 6th in strikeouts, 4th in quality starts, 11th in WHIP, and those rnaking don’t change much when you compare them againt the entire MLB pitchers.
Well, the point I’m trying to make is, he’s good. Stop being unreasonable.
i’m sick of pedro. he’s a washed up big name. one of these games, when this win streak is long gone and we’ve hit some bumps in the road, we’re REALLY going to need him to go out and win, and he’s going to give up 5 runs in the first inning, forcing manuel to dig deep into the bullpen for 8 and 2/3 innings and THEN SOMEONE will figure it out.
Right now it looks like we are going to get minimal production from Pedro, Alou and El Duque this year. That makes the current first place in the standings even more impressive.
I like Pedro, but believe he is done.
They should do whatever they can to help Santana. I would hope that as a major league franchise that their star pitcher and the coaches are on the same page as far as regimen and conditioning.
