-Jerry Manuel said if the pitching holds up the Mets can get by without adding an outfielder at the trade deadline. If not, then they would have to beef up the offense.

-There’s been no discussion of bringing up Fernando Martinez.

-Luis Castillo begins a rehab assignment tonight at Single-A St. Lucie.

-Orlando Hernandez could be close to being ready, but Manuel said it would be in relief.

-Pedro Martinez is to throw this weekend.

    Though time will tell, I’m relieved the Phillies got Blanton and not Burnett.
