Browsing through some issues ….

Just want to touch on a few things from your comments of yesterday:

-Adam Dunn: What can I say, I like the guy. I wish they’d get him. He’s a guy I can see who would be energized playing for a winning team. I think it would take a lot to get him, and it would be predicated on signing him long term.

-Raul Ibanez: Not if there’s a chance for Dunn.

-Fernando Martinez: I don’t believe the Mets think he’s ready. He’s a guy who is better off getting regular at-bats in the minors than a part time at-bats in the majors. If he’s not at Triple-A, why would he go to the majors?

-Billy Wagner: He was asked a question and gave an honest answer on Oliver Perez. The Mets needed Perez to step up and nobody else was saying it. I don’t believe Wagner was throwing him under the bus.

-It’s not like Trot Nixon was here long enough to warrant any number held for him When he comes back and if Nick Evans is not here he’ll get No. 6. Odds are Evans will be the one to go back when Nixon is ready.

I think the mets view triple a as more of a rehab rest stop or a place where overaged ballplayers go. i remember reading an article that said their philosophy (along with many other mlb teams nowadays) is to keep their best prospects up at AA. so f-mart not being in triple a shouldnt be a knock against him nor an indication on how ready the mets feel f-mart is. if that makes any grammatical sense lol.

john, any ideas if aaron rowand is available? he hasnt lived up to his numbers last year, and maybe sf has buyers remorse since he just signed a long term contract with them. god knows they have a lot of money riding on a couple mediocre guys over there.

Jason: I don’t buy that theory. Triple-A is a higher level of competition. And, from talking to Omar he doesn’t buy it either. Triple-A still is the next step before the majors.-JD

Breaking News : David Wright was named to the All-Star team….replacing A. Soriano!!!!!

    JD…..

Here a few names to add to the corner outfield mix….

Darin Erstad gold glover plays all three outfield & 1B .300 BA

Jonny Gomes odd man out huge cieling- left fielder potential 1b

Richie Sexson platoon with Delgado – change of scenery guy – allow Tatis to focus on the outfield

    Nixon-Tatis-Chavez-Pagan-Beltran could be enough

Erstad: good player. I’d take him
Sexson: No way. he is awful plus he is too sensitive. If he couldn’t handle the booing in Seattle, there is no way for him to succeed here.
Gomes: Why? He had one good year. He’s otherwise awful.
Dunn: He is a slugger and nothing more. I don’t know why JD likes him. But if it costs nothing more than a lower level prospect, i’d definitely consider him
Ibanez: I’ve always been a big fan. hits for power, avg, and gets on base and is a true outfielder which doesn’t hurt.

For me, Ibanez is my choice.

JD: Do you think Brian Giles is available from San Diego? I know he is a shell of his former self in the power department, but he does get on base and hit for a good average.

John – I recently saw on SNY a week or so ago in an interview with Bernazard that the organization’s plan is to keep all their top prospects in AA. They feel the jump from AA to AAA isn’t really all that significant. They want the good prospects on the same team to play together and learn the game together. The organization’s philosophy is that they will learn to play funadmental baseball together as a team. The organization feels that AAA is a losing environment full of aging and rehabbing veterans and AA is a better environment for developing the kids.

Steve: Sure, I think Giles could be had. Not sure what the Padres’ immediate needs would be.-JD

JD – I don’t agree re: AAA and AA. I’d bet anyone that F-Mart doesn’t set foot in AAA before he makes his MLB debut. Not saying it’s coming anytime soon, but I think they’ve been clear that they wouldn’t put even a qualified young “Future Star” in that losing environment right now. Why did Evans go back to AA after he had his debut, especially when they obviously considered him worthy of a future callup?

All right JD! I’ve been singing the Dunn song across blogs for a while. Honestly, I think our offense becomes one of the best in the NL with him – and Beltran maybe wouldn’t have to bat fourth.

What do you think Dunn would take/is worth giving up for?

I like Adam Dunn. Not only does he have awesome HR power, but he also has a 381 OBP. At the same time, I really don’t want to trade away any of our best prospects for 2 months of Adam Dunn. I’d rather miss the playoffs in 2008 than mortgage away our future. But if he can be had for say a Mike Carp or Bobby Parnell, then I’d pull the trigger.

astoria mets fan: we must have been watching the same show. yes, thats where i had heard about the AA and AAA thing. plus you look at most teams prospects, theyre all in double A and make the jump straight to the majors.

I think FMart needs more seasoning. He is not dominating where he is and he could use a full season somewhere.

I don’t understand this AA AAA thing. Anything below AA seems like such a waste. The players have no clue. So ppl say there is only one environment in which a major league org lets its better players play?

Why put aging vets in AAA? If they need at bats or whatever, you can put them anywhere. Pagan is in bklyn i think. Most likely because it is close to shea. Pedro and El Duque were rehabing in st lucie i think. Vets just need a place to work, kids need a challenge. A ball does not seem like a challenge. It seems to be a place to prove you have a clue then AA and after that you need someplace to go. Not the majors.
