-Jerry Manuel anticipates the Mets not activating Moises Alou until after the All-Star break. Makes sense. They are playing well without him.
-Manuel doesn’t have a timetable for second baseman Luis Castillo’s return, but said Damion Easley won’t automatically go to the bench.
-Manuel said he’s not yet resigned to the idea of not having Ryan Church for the rest of the season. The Mets better think about with the trade deadline approaching. You know, of course, they can’t depend on Alou in the second half.

It is good to know to know that with a struggling team on his hands the manager is willing to let performance on the field dictate who plays.
And yes, it does sound as if Church will be in and out of the lineup for the rest of the year.
Let’s hope Castillo takes an extended vacation. They’ve been playing much better without him.
