Mets Chat Room: Mets rolling in St. Loooo.

Mets are up 9-0 in the third, breaking out in a big way before their series at Philadelphia. Talking to the boys before the game they kept saying they had a big game tonight.
That’s keeping the focus.
Cole Hamels pitching for Philly tonight in Atlanta, so the Mets catch a break there. Tomorrow would be a good time to get Johan Santana going. Or, should I say, a good time to get him some runs?
NOTEBOOK: Here’s a surprise, Moises Alou has been pushed back again. No rehab games this weekend. Doctors to re-evaluate him Monday. … Angel Pagan still rehabbing in Florida, evidently not opting for surgery now. … Ryan Church could get tomorrow off in Philly.

What’s the pressbox food in St. Louis like?
So we’re heading into the Phils series as an exhausted, banged up team. No Alou. No Castillo. Church needs rest. Beltran needs rest. Pedro is shellshocked. Oh this is going to be an interesting series!
Tiffany: Horrible on the food. I go to the concession stand.-JD
A pretty good start Mets up 4 zip. Mets have their problems and so do the Sillies and everyone else in baseball. except the Rays????
John so whats good to eat in St Louis
Wilmer Flores hits a HR then leaves the game with an apparent injury.. I’ll keep you updated.
Pelf gets his first career RBI
3 run triple for Reyes. Put him in the 3 hole.
And then Reyes proceeds to blow the game wide open….
9-0 It will be quiet on the blog tonight.
John still want that rain out.
9-0 lead in the third. Turn off the lights. Light up the victory cigar, Red Auerbach. Bring on those Phillies. Mike Pelfrey with his first rbi. I wonder who holds the record for rbi by a pitcher (leaving out guys like Ruth and Ted Williams). Cy Young had 290, Walter Johnson 255, Wes Ferrell 209, Spahn 190 so it is probably Denton True. Which reminds me..how did he pitch all those innings with no 5 man rotation, pitch counts, “hardwood and Tuscany Tile” pitching coaches, modern medicine??
Dan, Cy Young probably made 5 k a year. No pitch counts for him.
Scott: That’s a point for you.-JD
Pelfry will be out Ace in 2 years time. I love his stuff.
Looking up Cy Young in wikipedia it says he didn’t throw much in spring training and only 4-5 minutes of pre game warm up instead of the usual 15 minutes other pitchers used. “There are only so many pitches in the arm” he used to say.
I was checking out the philly blog to get a sense what they think of the mets. The philly fans have no respect at all for the mets. It would be really sweet if the Mets went in there and swept there buts. I know people think met fans are the most negative fans but believe me when i tell you the philly fans are even worse, hard to believe but true.
I know LaRussa manages outside the box but letting his starter get bombed for 11 runs and pitch 6 innings has no explanation.
And here is some more good news, Binghamton, the Mets AA affiliate is sending 4 players to the AA all star game. We have held our own against yankmes and st louie. I am even starting to like Delgado. LETS GO METSIES!!!
Is the AA all star game on tv ?
Was Wright injured in this game? Is he just out of the game because it’s a blow out?
Scott, He is saving his bullpen for the Cubs. Not a bad strategy in my book, He knows this game is gone. Thats what a smart veteran manager knows how to do.
Scott, Dont know I you live in NY you have a bette chance. Check your SNY schedule.
Wright is fine. Just a chance to rest him. And, Ray is right, La Russa is saving pen for Cubs. That’s smart.-JD
John tks for the update on Wright.
I guess that tonight is even easy one for you.
speaking of smart why not let bigpelf finish?
why use 3 pitchers when one will do?
oh yeah. he went 2 innings beyond the magical 5 innning brick wall and would have turned into a pumpkin.
Hey, Im gonna be cool tonight, Nice win, I feel good about our chances, Lets Go Mets.
Great win but the team is still inconsistent. win one, lose one. Need to go on a win streak and the best way to do that is good starting pitching.
Hey, If anybody is still out there, I saw a great action movie, today. Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. Check it out and have a great fouth. Ya Gotta Believe !!!!!
Ray, Thanks for the movie review. Maybe I’ll check it out!
Now onto the Mets: Pelfrey came up HUGE tonight. The Mets get a big win and Beltran and the bullpen get a rest. Wow! And I guess one other thing I need to mention is what a nice job Easley is doing lately. Once Pedro gets going we’ll be cooking!
yes, this is what to expect after a great mets win, Nothing but silence except for the village idiot. Freakin great Metsfans here, I am boycotting this bunch of freaking losers for awhile, If i want nothing to do but hate my team, i will find another outlet or just read the crummy newspaper shmucks like wally boy at newsday. I wish some more of you would have come to the Half glass full side, but just be quiet you cowards, until the Mets lose another game, You will all jump out of your woodworks like last night, after a tough loss, when they fought hard and almost came back. The Hell with you.
Its not about you paul, Idiot bob had a post that delcos erased. i am glad that somebody is out there who isnt a great freakin prophet of doom or a schmuck whose only purpose in life is to call for the firing of minaya. God Bless ya.
Ray- I usually enjoy reading what most have to say, but I guess its more fun to complain for some of us. I have been as annoyed with this club as anyone at times, but I am not ready to bail out on them. I think we can win this thing yet!
I’ll always remember routing for the Islanders during the year they won their first cup. It was a similar season as to the one we are experiencing now. We knew the team had lots of talent but they were underachieving badly. Suddenly they got it together the last 2 weeks of the season and went on to win 4 cups in a row.
That’s why its hard to totally throw in the towel wit this bunch. I still believe we do have the talent. If we ever had a healthy club things would be different. Maybe a return to health is all we need. Having a healthy Castillo, Alou and Church would be like making a few big trades! Maybe that will do it.
I have been liking what I’ve seen from Pelfrey since he got rid of the mouthguard. Even though he was still losing games, he turned a corner. Since then, he’s been getting better and better. Having him contribute will be a major addition down the stretch.
Lets go Mets!
Paul, I appreciate your constructive constricism. That being said, I have to say, that it just strikes me, how many Metsfans go into a fit when the Mets lose, and are totally quiet when the mets are winning. Please check the last days posts. I am not a complainer. I am against the complaners. I hope you realize
That. I am one of the positive people here. I hope you will look at my posts and realize that.
I don’t want to jump on the front-running bandwagon, but it’s starting to look like Pelfrey has really turned the corner.
What is the most pathetic thing in the blogosphere: A moron moralizing about what fans should do. Boycott you say. Nobody cares Ray Sadecki. I hope the real Ray Sadecki wasn’t a silly crybaby like you are. Real Met fans bitch Ray Sadecki so they don’t break anything in their houses and apartments.
Couple of comments:
Ray – That’s what I been talkin’ bout.
Tiffany – I think he can now hold the nickname Big Pelf with pride.
I think (and hope) that you are now seeing a team start to gel and believe in themselves. Ray is right about the naysayers. How many times have I seen this team winning and nobody blogging or still blogging negative?
Like I said before – Constructive criticism is great, name calling is simpleminded. Calling for somone’s head every two minutes isn’t helpful either. Explain what you are talking abou!!!
I keep thinking back to one of Pelfrey’s uninspiring starts last year and how Paul Lo Duca commented on how close the pitcher was. I remember wondering whether Lo Duca was watching a different game than I was. Now, I’m beginning to see what he was talking about.
Our GM said some time ago that BigPelf was a keeper because of a game he pitched in Sep.
I think this year he has been pitching much better even tho he is a 500 pitcher. I think when all is said and done for 08 that he will be a 500 pitcher give or take a loss or two.
Looking forward we now have one legit pitcher with 3 unknowns. Pelf is still learning and is doing about what you would expect for a 2nd year guy. Maine has been inconsistent and has not built on last year and flipper is well he is flipper. Then we have Pedro who is having various issues and I would say is a disappointment so far.
The good is that Easley is having a nice stretch and Delgado may be relevant again. It is nice to see that the manager has found a way to give everyone a day off here and there.
I think we are playing better since The Firing™. But for right now we are still a 500 team.
Dave
Hopefully Alou can come back and stay healthy for the rest of the season. I know, that is a big if and the rest of the team can stay healthy I think the Mets can definitely get hot and challenge the phillies for the division. I think the Braves are done. Pelfrey is showing more and more improvement and hopefully Ollie’s new delivery was the reason he pitched well the last time out (big if)and Pedro can find his groove. There is no reason why they shouldn’t contend for the division. There is allot of if’s though, Ollie, Pedro and the mets staying healthy. Hopefully all the negative crap that has happened to them since last September until now is behind them, I really hope so.
Lets Go Mets, beat those philthy Phils.
Alou ain’t gonna be healthy, though. Lets not be pollyanna just to be positive. We’re lucky if he comes back at all, let alone if he stays back for a long time.
That ship has sailed.
