Boy, dropping Ruben Gotay because he wasn't Willie's prototypical 1887-style second-based-man sure looks goddamned brilliant now, doesn't it?
Three and a half more years of this! At least we're rid of Alou Pedro and Delgado in October… though… with Minaya's slavish devotion to the belief that washed-up guys can return via magic (thanks for nothing, Jose Valentin!) who the hell knows?
Reyes the Second is young enough where, who knows, maybe there's something there. Can he play short or third at all? Maybe he surprises us and becomes the infield sub the Mets haven't had all year?
I have to imagine that Christina Aguilera was only called up because nearly everything at AAA is basically org-filler, though.
Nothing like a Triple-A team full of twenty-nine-year-old org-fillers to dash any fantasies of a comeback.
You are rather ignorant of Met doings if you are really blaming Willie Randolph for the Mets dumping Gotay. The man wasn't even allowed to pick his coaching staff and you really beleive Willie Randolph had any say in his roster. IT WAS OMAR MINAYA. So stop blamingWillie for every damn thing you don't like.
While it is certainly fair to have Willie and Omar share the blame on Gotay, the point stands that Willie refused to let the guy hit… even when he was hitting much more effectively than Castillo… because of his obsession with the idea of second-base as a strictly defensive position where as long as a guy is a Proven Veteran™ with Gold Gloves from fifteen years ago, you're allowed to be a ground-ball force-out machine.
And now Gimpy McBanjo's on the DL.
Assess blame where you like, it was a bad move is the point.
Aguila is here to motivate this team with a little Polynesian Fire Dancing.
stop changing history… Willie Randolph was playing Gotay everyday and then your beloved GM brought in this criuppled guy from Minnesota and Randolph had no say. There is no blame to share evenly. MINAYA BROUGHT IN CASTILLO AND DFA'd GOTAY.. If you think otherwise you are delusional. It was a bad move but people like you refuse to recogtnize why this team sucks. Its because of the GM not the ex-manager or the interim manager.
If you want to play policeman, Delcos, this is the kind of posting that you need to regulate: Calling others "delusional" and "ignorant" when you disagree with them. There really should be no place for this on your blog.
To ain't Willie's fault: Tiffany is right. You can disagree without the name calling.-JD
To ain't Willie's fault
You do know when Mets played the Braves for the first time earlier this year the one person that Gotay refused to speak to was Willie. I do not know the reason but Gotay believed Willie was the reason that he did not make the team.
Also this kid Reyes is probably just as good as Gotay.
well we have a few weeks to see if the new reyes can play
To Scott: All right EVERYTHING WRONG WITH THIS TEAM IS ON RANDOLPH. MINAYA IS A PERFECT GM.
