Injuries are not inevitable with Alou? Have you... not been watching the last two years? Dude can still hit but dude can't stay healthy.

Delgado really hasn't been all that much better as of late, what's changed is that he's been having a few more of his occasional big games, when the stars align for him to get his batspeed back for a game or two.

A day game, playing DH, in Yankee Stadium, against a crappy pitcher... sure, he has a big game.

After a day-off, after a travel day, in a home run park, against a pitcher who doesn't have the stuff to exploit his old and injured upper body...

Sure. He has a good one here and there. But that's hardly consistent improvement.

Castillo is done and has been done. Knees are gone and the guy's whole game was built upon his speed as a batter and his range as a fielder.

Church is still a question mark, Schneider can't hit and Castro can't stay healthy long enough to be an everyday starter even though if he could he'd have more than enough bat for an NL catcher.

Pedro's finally run out of gas, Maine and Perez are largely coin-flips, Pelfrey's still developing.

The bullpen's erratic at best.

Look, you can say "it's only 4.5 out" until you're blue in the face but... unless something is coming down the road to chance the above significantly, "Being Close" in early July don't mean a thing.

Steve C. I agree.

Here's the deal with Castillo. He really truly has bad knees. Its not just a rumor. Those bad knees drastically reduce his range in the field. Thats just how it is. He has been getting on base so his offensive contributions have been good.

As much as Alou has been injury prone, injuries are not inevitable. He may avoid the DL for the rest of the year. If we get lucky thats what will happen.

Delgado has been awful offensively for a 1st baseman and his defense is as bad as you say. But he's been much better of late. Maybe he's turned a corner. He still has tremendous bat speed and crush the ball. He just has to get it started quickly or time the pitcher better. He has been doing that. He hasn't had as many swings and misses lately.

I don't really know what you mean when you mention Reyes. What I see is a guy having a tremendous year. Not the best fielding year of his career but not so bad really and just terrific offensively. Stolen bases are the most overrated stat. Who care if Reyes isn't stealing a lot? I don't.

I really think Pedro Martinez will find his command and finish very strong. I mean sub 3.00 ERA the rest of the way (not finishing with sub 3.00 ERA but sub 3.00 ERA from here on). We'll see.

Taylor thats the team I see as well. but there are some players that dont/cant pull their weight.

Delgado is the biggest hole and wildcard. His sux as a fielder, and his hitting has been very very spotty he only produces when he's knocked down the batting order.
Castillo has great offense his Defense is so-so. Easley is a better fit.

Endy finally owns Left field , church is back and Beltran is coming out of a hitting slump. The only positions to fix other than 1st is Pitching and Reyes. I think Reyes will come around.. The pitching will have to change or get better. Pedro should just retire a winner.

When I watch I look beyond the statistics and I watch the player and the heart and the reaction as they play.

Catchers we are split, we have a glove in schneider and we have a bat in castro ..

Waiting for alou is like waiting for Pedro. we should just use him as a Pinch Hitter. yes he's great but his injuries keep piling up. we get 1 or 2 Stellar performances because he goes out to win, then gets hurt.

Sometimes you have to wake up smell the coffee and settle your losses and build new. Its time to build new. Goodbye pedro, degado, Castillo , Alou (Castillo, Alou are the last guys i want gone of the 3, they play to win, but castillo sux as a fielder and both are Injured permanently)

Lets play ball and Lets Go mets Go.

Taylor, you are right on. I knew after the walk off homer by Glaus, this board which was so quiet when the Mets came back, was going to explode into crying and gnashing of teeth. I am just checking in now to see what I am glad I missed.

You people are watching a different Mets team than I am. We are talking about the NY Mets baseball club here right? On the SNY network? I see a team that hustles its ass off. It doesn't give up and fights till the end of every game and every AB. What the heck are all of you watching. Show me one instance of a Met player giving up or not trying. That's right. You can't. Because the Mets bust their asses. They came back nicely last night after getting in 4-0 hole. Pedro looked fine. Yes I watched the entire game so I know he allowed 2 HRs. Do you really think every bad pitch he makes all season will be put into the seats? Part of that is bad luck. The other part is that his command is still coming back to him. That was a disappointing game but I like they way they played.

The world according to Omar Minaya

If only someone could make Carlos Delgado stay 31 years old... I might have looked for a decent part time first baseman who bats right handed. Screwed that one up.
If only someone told me a guy who has to have both knees operated on might lose his range, his speed and his ability to play everyday. I might not have given him a 4 year deal. Screwed that one up.
If only someone told me that Moises Alou was kidding me when he said last year's injuries were a fluke. I might have looked for a healthy guy to play the outfield. Screwed that one up.
If only someone told me that a starter who missed a year with major surgery might not be so good when he returned, I might have looked for a dependable innings eater. Screwed that one up.
If only someone told me that Oliver Perez only has one good year out of every three, I might have traded him when his value was high. Screwed that one up.
If only someone told me that Wagner poisons every clubhouse and sucks in the clutch, I might have looked elsewhere for a closer. Screwed that one up.
If only someone told me that a horrible bench with no fielding ability would hurt the team I might not have gotten these old guys. Screwed that one up.
If only if only if only.... Good thing the owner likes me.......

Phils show hideous Met front office what to do with overpaid/underperforming players: Brett Myers sent to minors. Mets crap stay in bigs and play every day.

Met hideous front office signs crippled second baseman to 4 year deal. Moron interim nmanager plays him for 18 innings. Then, when he's hurt agian, interim moron manager says maybe he shouldn't have done it. Pathetic press gives him free ride because he says cute things.

Interim morn manager pitches worst releiver in 9th inning of tie game. Hideous front office sends guy down immediately after game. Meanwhile moronic interim manager keeps Schoeneweis and Wagner "fresh". Again, pathetic press gives him free ride because he says cute things.

Fan base starting to get it. It ain't Willie's fault. Mets suck.

RE: Strolling on and off the field: Derek Jeter and Don Mattingly were playing catch in the outfield late in the day at the old Yankee Field in Ft. Lauderdale during Derek's rookie year. There was no one around. Derek started walkling in when Don said: "Always run going out and in from the field - you never know who is watching"

Watch Derek now - he's always running.

And Yadier Molina kills the Mets again. He takes out Sanchez, who can't pitch tonight, and Feliciano gives up a homer in Sanchez's inning.

I said after the first month and a half this was a .500 team. They keep this trend up and they might not even be a .500 team. Who would have thought that before this year started.

This is the 2008 New York mets, win some, lose some, nothing to exciting. I'm past expecting anything good from this team so I really don't care anymore. This team can't get out of it's own way, it's just laughable.

There is a ton of rain getting closer to St. Louis. The mets better get a run here and get wagner out there to seal the deal or this game might not get completed of course unless the cardinals win it in the ninth.

I hope the bottom of the order can put a run up for wagner, I'd hate to see muniz against pujols in the bottom of the 9th.
