Amazingly, no one else is disturbed by this quote.

-Luis Castillo rests today and Damion Easley is at second. “He seems to wear down easier than I thought he would,” Manuel said.

This man acts as if the day he was hired to replace Willie Randolph he ascended off a deserted island as opposed to sitting next to Randolph the first 65 games.

I'm still mad at the Mets for letting Felix Millan go to Japan.

well to play devils advocate, castillo or matsui: the sequel would have been completely unnecessary had Omar not traded Keppinger for Gotay - how is Kepp doing again for the Reds? Then let DFA'd gotay to go to a division rival. Smart!

If we did not sprint for Castillo at worst we would have a platoon of Easley/Gotay.

Perhaps being an interim manager allows Manuel not to play favorites. There are no politics in his position and he doesn't have to give anyone consideration for the past.

It is good that Church moves up in the lineup. It makes for a better order. Delgado looks like he can still mash some mistakes, but has no batting avg and can't really scare anyone.

right now, I might be faster than Delgado (OK, for sure I am, and I am 45!), and just might have a higher average!

Castillo needs to go. If Omar can trade him and just eat 1/2 the salary, do it.

Although if he blows out the knee, he might end up having to retire. I would rather the Mets pay him (since they will be anyway) to sit on the beach somewhere than to play 2B.

John -- In 50 words or less, can you give us your thoughts on the Andy Phillips Era...just a little something in writing that we can share with our grandchildren. Thanks.

Let's not forget context: This was a market where Kaz Matsui got three years and $15 million. And the Astros had reportedly offered Castillo three years, prompting Omar to offer a fourth. If Omar didn't offer that fourth year, you'd be looking at _Kaz: The Sequel_.

I thihk Castillo will play about 120-135 games, not 100-120.

Endy batting 2nd eh? #2 hitter with .300 OBP. Not so good.

Jimmy Dean: One of the all-time dumb contracts. I'm not sure about surgery. It doesn't appear to have worked. Eating the contract would be a tough thing to do, but the Mets could attempt to buy him out. Except, what's the incentive for Castillo?-JD

JD-what are your thoughts on Luis Castillo and his contract? Do you think he may consider another surgery after the season, or perhaps the Mets look to just eat his contract and release him after the season? 6 million a year for a 100-120 game player is a little ridiculous to me, especially for his production or lack there of!!

Holy smokes, Luis! $6 million a year for a part-time job.

Wish I was that lucky.
