Mets Chat Room: Armas gets shot.

- 1
Tony Armas will become the eighth starter for the Mets this season. He was 5-7 at Triple-A New Orleans, so excuse me if I don’t register high on the excitement meter.
I picked the Mets to get into the playoffs at the start of the season, and they are 3 1/2 games back now. I’m not going to back off that now. However, I didn’t expect them to be so erratic.
Based on the pitching matchups, I would think they’ll get waxed tonight. Then again, that’s what a reverse lock is all about.

I expected them to get to the playoffs too. Now I do not think so. There is still time, but I don’t like who they are.
As for Armas. Since he is our best pitcher in AAA I expect him to win 10 games in the big leagues this year.
Yes. That was sarcasm.
Armas gets shot? Was it a driveby…is he all right?
;)
In fairness to Armas, he’s pitched well and gotten no run support. So he should feel comfortable with his surroundings ;)
At least they aren’t doing that take and rake stuff. Aggressive baseball!!! Who care if you actually score runs? Not me. I just loves me some of that aggressive baseball.
2 hits a walk and 2 outs on the basepaths, most importantly, 0 runs
Armas has alway been a quality arm. The only issue has been his heath. Minor league numbers are good. If Tony can get it done I will forget my ponson rant. Begfore I can finish post he gives up a two run homer. FIRE OMAR !!!!!!!!!
JD,
Please tell me why you won’t back off your playoff prediction. You must be a more perceptive baseball observer than this . . .
5 batters, 4 baserunners, O runs.
In case I am the only one getting the Cardinals feed, how do you all feel knowing that Braden Freakin Looper has thrown a complete game shutout this year? How many have the mighty mets thrown this year? hello?
Ray,
Ya gotta give credit to their pitching coach, Dave Duncan. He seems able to turn water into wine.
To reiterate on my post last night. Del God No and his wave at the ball defense must go if this team is to have any chance. I have found an even worse DH on a playoff bound AL team. Garrett Anderson makes Delgado look like a slugger. Take a decent minor leaguer for this stiff now. yes I know he just hit a double.
If we don’t score a run this inning I’d replace Jerry Manuel with Mr. Met
Is anything dumber than batting a pitcher not named micah owings 8th?
The Phillies demoted Brett Myers to AAA today. Has there ever been a division more available for the taking? Is there anybody else out there? hello?
For anyone who listens to the Jim Rome show “Boom… Outta Here”

For your listening pleasure
Kevin, Give me a take and dont suck.
JM: Today is July 1. The Mets are 3 1/2 games behind. They have 12 games remaining with the Phillies.-JD
JD, give me a take and dont suck, that last post sucked.
Have you heard that sound byte from bret myers Ray? Absolutely classic. What an A-hole
Kevin, I havent. Please enlighten us.
Click on the Youtube link I posted above
Joe Torre
Kevin, Thank you, That was a good one. I cant see this guy shaking it off in AAA. He is burnt. Taylor, that was a good post. maybe you forgot not to suck. Sorry, I didnt bring up Romy here, but maybe it will induce posters to not suck, as we have enough problems with a team that does suck.
Ted Sizemore.
JD,
Will they have different players for those games? Obviously I’m being sarcastic, and it is eminently reasonable to think that time is on their side, but this team is just not capable of good baseball for more than a day or two.
I hope you’re right!
Tiffany, Its like my best hitter just whiffed on 3 pitches. Ted Sizemore? Yeah he was a great .270 hitter with no power and so what?
JD. Im not trying to hijack your site, just trying to keep this interesting. I hope you dont mind.
Ray: Are they playing good? No. Have they Hoovered most of the year? Absolutely. But, the playoffs are still doable. Now, considering most people out there think I’m negative, I should get some kudos for sticking to the original pick. It’s too early to back off. If they Mets can blow a seven-game lead with 17 remaining, why can’t they pick up four games with 79 left?-JD
The Mets needed that. I needed that.
Ray: As I wrote that they just tied the game. What karma I must be giving them. It must be my blue and orange underwear.-JD
Tie game, Hello. anybody gonna say something?
Of course, Ray.-JD
John, I dont know if I ever mentioned it, but I would love to have some of those famous underwear. Please tell me where I can get some.
JD,
I like that “hoovering” line. Much more classy than its connotation.
I’ve been saying it all along: The Mets are a different team when Delcos is in the ballpark. They must feed off his energy and enthusiasm.
JM: Thanks. Always like to take the high road whenever possible.-JD
Forget about it, I hate the Cardinals, They were the worst enemy we ever had. If mets fans cant get up for this than they need a wakeup call. they called us pondscum. As a metfan you must have extra passion to beat this team. What about 2006? Lets take the next 3 and roll into filly and crush them. I hate the defeatest attitude of some Mets fans.
Ken Reitz.
Tiffany,
I like you but If you keep on bringing up the name of cardinal players, I am going to have to put you on the you know what list. Are you a cardinals fan? Agee, Jones, Seaver Koozie, when you get to the 80s cards, I will give you our icons from that era. Where were the cards in 69 and 73 dear tiff?
It has to be the underwear.-JD
The Mets just scored 3 runs to take the lead, and the Cardinal fans cheered when the inning ended haha. Half of Queens is cursing that the Mets didn’t score more.
I’m actually with Delcos regarding this team being right in the thick of things, despite their underwhelming performance to date. I am somewhat reminded of the ‘73 team, which was as many as 12 games out while struggling due to injuries to keep players such as Cleon, Harrelson and Grote, as well as head-in-crapper months from a key reliever (McGraw). One by one, it seemed, these players returned to health and returned to form—and the team, which had gone 35-46 over the first half, rebounded to go 47-33 over the second half and captured a similarly weak NL East.
Great inning from Tony.
My ultimate ‘80s Met icon was none other than John Pacella.
Nice catch for a pitcher…
As our friend Bret would say, “Boom… outta here”
Does Dan Warthen wear his pants too high?
I give the floor to ….Tiffany.
Its nice to have a night off from the negative posters tonight. Mostly when I say it time to FIRE OMAR, its a spoof on some of out famous posters. I will never forget 1973. That was my team. Even losing to the Athletics that year was like winning. If you dont know why, then you werent there, my friend.
I was wrong about Joe Torre (that was a guess for the trivia question answer). It was Rogers Hornsby. Most HRs Torre had w/ STL was 24.
It was because of George Theodore and Don Hahn.
Who can forget the September Cleon had? not to mention Mcgraw. And dont forget the 12-3 2.80 record of 4th pitcher George Stone? and of course, The Stork, George Theodore? It doesnt look like much in the stats, but somehow he got a lot of big hits.
I swear Sanchez is cursed.
Sanchez walked off under his own power. Nice ovation from Cardinal fans.-JD
I believe Wayne Garrett had a good September also.
tiffany,
Its about time to tell you that your sarcasim begins to wear after awhile. maybe its time to say somthing of your own opinion now, sweet tiffany.
Wayne Garret had his career that that year. other than that, he was a total bum. Led the the with six stolen bases that year.
Nice win by the Mets tonight. Is it going to be quiet here now that the crybabies seem to have taken the night off?
Yeah, the last few posts by me. You all should be ashamed to call youreselves to be called Mets fans. big win tonight, and you want to stay home and sharpen your fangs for the next mets loss. Only tiffany, who has a female blogger name came on to give the negative. She was bad too, but the rest of you were worse. Only JD, He of the negative attitue came out with a positive attitude, as i challenged you all for a post that didnt suck. I said his sucked, but at least he came out with an opinion you weakKenead sistas would dare. This is not to be his bitch, I called him out before you turds.
This site is getting just like talk radio. People only show up to whine on the bad nights.
Just to let everyone know Jerry in his post game said
Sanchez is ok.
Thank You, Scott,
These fools will now wait until the all star break to cry again. Unless the mets lose tomorow. Hey Tony Armas did a pretty good job tonight, didnt he?
Bad news: Armas is exactly what he looked like… a guy who not even really crappy teams would take for their major league rosters. Utter org-filler bad-but-not-spectacularly-bad dross.
Good news: the bats made up for it for one night.
Armas looks like a step up from Figeroua and Vargas.
Nice to see a pitcher not walk the ballpark.
Lets hope he can stay healthy.
Hey give Omar a little credit he found someone better than
Lima or Lawrence
Good call on Armas.
He took another crappy former Expo in hopes that he’d catch lightning in a bottle… Minaya does that a lot.
Amazing, Delgado is put down the order and he produces. Maybe he should be kept there, I think the lack of stress makes him produce more.
Armas had a good outing but like Vargas, could be flash in the pan. Lets keep the fingers crossed.
Reyes got robbed several times. And I rather watch Easley play second than Castillo.
I don’t know, but for some reason I felt really good about the win yesterday. Alot is riding on tonight. If Pedro’s problem was that he was only tipping his pitches, and he has it fixed, if he pitches well it will be a huge lift to the team.
Also though I know he doesn’t get credit for the usually laughed at “quality start,” I think the way Armas settled down after early jitters and managed to give up only 1 run the last 4 innings he pitched, I think it was a quality start yesterday.
agreed Steve-O.
;-)
Good outing?
He stuck a six ERA up there. The only reason he won is that the offense went nuts. Have things gotten SO bad that we’re praising four runs in six innings?
“Well, he was only bad and not transcendently awful and so that’s basically good”?
I mean, I realize there was no one else to call up for the start but… lets not go crazy here. He’s another one of Minaya’s ex-Expo warm bodies to fill a profoundly depleted AAA, no more, possibly even less.
Mike C: Chill…the guy had a rough 1st inning and settled down. He kept the Mets in the game and didn’t let the game get out of hand. Given that he gave up a 2 run homer in the first, calming down and giving up only 2 more runs thru the next 5 innings is quality IMO.
John –
Why has Jerry Manuel been named an ‘interim’ manager? Seems to me that the Wilpons are scared to death of giving anyone a real job.
I always thought that Fred was a responsible owner, but in recent years I’ve discovered that the Steinbrenners are much more hands on and willing to take a risk for success.
Now we hear that Reyes was ‘hands off’ to Willie as a manager – is he still or can Jerry do the job that needs to be done?
Metsville is a very strange place these days…..........
If he really wants to catch lightning, there’s always Geremi Gonzalez…
Annie,
if you were a real fan you would know being a Met Fan in Metville, as you call it, is always strange. Look when doubleday owned in the 80’s no one was allowed to throw a used ball to the fans. what an insult!
and under Steve Phillips the ridiculous crappy trades he made. One thing i cant fault Minaya, he has made much better trades than phillips ever did.
After we won the series in 86, they couldnt wait to sell the players off!
