Mets Chat Room: Another test.

The way things are playing out, one would figure the wild card will come from the NL Central. I’m thinking the Cardinals will see October. They are such a fundamentally sound team, not prone to make the careless mistakes we’ve seen from the Mets.
They are the middle step between the Yankees and Phillies, two teams always on the Mets’ radar. However, they are not a team to be overlooked.

The offense has been a surprise. Thier defense is pretty good. I like their bullpen. The only thing they lack is good starting pitching. Lets see what happens.
Why do I have this feeling that lohse is going to pitch 7 innings and give up only 2 or less runs and the Mets pitchers are going to give up at least 6 runs.
I hope I’m wrong, I really do but I don’t expect the Mets to do much these next 8 games against the cardinals and the Phillies. I just think this team will be a sub .500 to .500 team.
3 more years with Castillo, ouch, what a scam!!!!
Great showing by I beloved Mets. Willy must be laughing his but off. If I was Willy I would be laughing because it is what it is, not a good team. The Wilpons and Omar are the only people who think this is a Championship caliber team and that is the owner and the GM, it sucks being a Met fan.
tomg: Well, down three tonight, so you figure they’ll lose. Tony Armas is expected to be brought up to pitch against Wellemeyer (7-2) tomorrow. Pedro and Pelfrey the rest of the series. Would you be surprised to see them drop three here?-JD
JD,
at this point it wouldn’t surprise me if they lost all 4 games but yea, at least 3.
How can you be a winning team when you have the living statue Delgado playing first, and oops it went through my legs, and I have no lateral movement castillo at 2nd base?
Combined with Reyes and Wrights errors, this is probably the worst defensive infield in baseball.
Not that I have a load of confidence in the offense, but I’d like to see them fight back at least. I think they can.
It’s hard to imagine a worse right side of the infield, though at least Wright and Reyes get to most everything.
Ray Sadecki,
The sad part is that the future doesn’t look much better and I am waiting for the trading dead line so I can watch Omar kill it some more.
JM,
I wish I had the confidence in this offense like you do but I bet you they make Lohse look like Cy young tonight, 7 innings, 2 runs, bull pen comes in and gives up a fat zero.
At this rate the cardinals are going to score at least 9 runs,
say goodnight Gracie, this game is over. What’s funny is I battled people on this blog for the past few months how this team is a .500 team. There come back was baseball is a long season and it was early. Well, for those people, I changed my mind. I don’t think this is a .500 team anymore. I think this is a sub .500 team. Remember me, TOMG, I said it, sub .500 team. I can’t wait until September because that is when all met fans will finally see the big picture.
tomg,
When I said they might be able to make a game of it, a lot of that depends on John Maine putting up zeros. At this point I’d just like to see them focus like it’s a tie game, no matter what the score is.
Goodnight Gracie … -JD
Not gonna happen like this.
Wow…the obvious thing is becoming more and more clear. The players on this team are just washed up pieces of garbage with no desire to win.
Oh Fred, can you hear me, Fred, can you hear me, OH Fred, Fred, enjoy your new ball park Fred with nobody in it!!!!
Why did Wright try to throw that guy out at first instead of just holding onto the ball and accepting a single? I guess he didn’t want Pujols up with a man on base but instead got him up with a runner in scoring position. And the Mets pay the price. Down 5-0.
New York Mets baseball at it’s best. Hey Fred, how does it feel to get scammed by Omar Minaya and Tony Bernazard, really Fred, how does it feel.
Maine, of course, is done for the night. He didn’t distinguish himself, either.-JD
On the comeback trail!
On the bright side tonight, Tampa Bay is beating Boston. Not too soon to scoreboard watch when the stuff on the field is bad.-JD
JD,
In theory, what is your list of players on this team that would be worth keeping?
wright, Reyes, Beltran, Maine, Santana, Pelfrey, church, smith that’s it for me!!!
Hello, this is Leonard Pinth-Garnell, and welcome to ``Bad Baseball,’’ where we are watching the exquisitely awful New York Mets baseball organization stink it up for yet another evening on this glorious summer evening in St. Louis, Missouri, in the heartland of America.-JD
way to set the tone for the second half
JD, that’s funny how you brought up the tampa boston game.I am pissed that on espn they are showing the met game, come on, it should have been the tampa boston game.
tomg: Yeah, that might be about it. Seriously, who else can’t you live without?-JD
God Endy is good. I would say you have to hit it out for him not to make the play, but Scott Rolen knows that won’t necessarily get it done either.
Nice SNL touch, John.
Hey fellow Met fans, look at the bright side. When we reach the all star break any illusions of this team making the playoffs will be pretty much gone and everybody can finally realize this is a sub .500 team.
I would throw in Feliciano and Sanchez, probably a few of the bench players, but that is pretty much the answer I was looking for. Everyone else should be out. Wagner has also gotta go.
tomg: I have some the first two seasons of ``The Odd Couple,’’ on DVD. I’d rather watch that.-JD
JM,
yea, I forgot about Sanchez. Unfortunately I have lost complete faith in Omar Minaya and I can’t wait for the trading dead line to see how bad he kills more of our future. That’s all that’s left for me for this baseball season.
JD,
can’t say that I blame you, that is more entertaining than watching the Mets and that is a understatement.
You know what….Omar is slowly becoming the next coming of Isiah…he’s so far done a comparable job…spending tons of money on crap washed up guys with attitudes, and then unceremoniously making a well touted guy a scape goat
Do you remember the episode when Oscar gambled away Felix’s funeral plot money? Any other suggestions.-JD
RMKmets,
pretty much, yea. Like I said earlier.
Fred, how does it feel to get scammed by Omar Minaya and Tony Bernazard?
I think this game calls for some Irwin Mainway…
Any chance of changing the schedule so there is only inter league play the second half of the season? Best chance for the Mets to take the NL East.
JD,
I think so but to be honest, I only watched those shows when they were actually on for the first time and never watched any re-runs.
Tiffany: Nice … watching the Mets can indeed be hazardous to one’s sensibilities.-JD
tiffany,
Have to admit that statement went over my head but I looked Irwin Mainway up on the internet and now I got it, impressive.
well, I said lohse would pitch 7 innings and give up 2 runs, I guess i was wrong, he will pitch more than 7 innings and give up less. I guess i don’t know this club as well as i thought.
Actually i checked what i said, second post of the night. I said 7 innings, 2 or less and the mets would give up 6 or more. I do know this team well, unfortunately.
What team out there would take Wagners contract?
The full name of this product, as it appears in stores all over the county, is Johnny Switchblade: Adventure Punk. I mean, nothing goes wrong.. little girls buy ‘em, you know, they play games, they make up stories, nobody gets hurt. I mean, so Barbie takes a knife once in a while, or Ken gets cut. You know, there’s no harm in that. I mean, as far as I can see, you know?
Ray Sadecki,
well, i don’t know that answer but what I do know is wagner is still in the top 5 in closing games, probably the fifth best and closer’s are hard to find or have so there could be a team that is good but needs a closer to get over the hump. The problem is i don’t see Omar Minaya being a seller. The Mets definitely should be sellers but Omar isn’t smart enough to think that way.
tiffany,
Is Irwin Mainway related to the guy in the movie Halloween?.
So, what’s to like in this Cardinal lineup? Outside of Albert, I’d take Yadier F. Molina over Schneider.
So much for big changes coming. Same team, same lineup, same results except we now have a manager the media likes.
If they dont do anything else, they have to move Delgado. His total lack of range and hustle cannot be made up by his occasional bursts of power. Maybe an AL team would give us a mid range prospect if wilpon pays half his contract.
Luis Castillo’s contract: “Astonishingly ill-chosen!”
Ray,
It would be have to be one desperate team to take Delgado, definitely an AL squad, and the Mets would probably have to eat all but the entire contract.
JM: Buuuurp.-JD
Now is the time. While his Yankee stadium performance is fresh in peoples minds.
Heres one. The Angels DH is Garrett Anderson. He has a 289 obp with 6 Hrs 35 rbis in close to 300 ABs. They may want to upgrade there with an eye to the playoffs.
Ugh, now we have to settle for a split.
Castillo was good last year. Made contact was a good #2 for us and played the field.
this year he is not hitting and his fielding sucks. but then again jose in the field is not jose either.
maybe they need to get a real infield coach who can teach all 4 players how to do the fundamental things and not make stupid plays.
I wonder if we can eat castillo’s contract and trade him to someone for an A ball player.
Tiffany: They play as a team. They are fundamentally sound, especially defensively. Albert Pujols is one of the best hitters in the league. Plus a career year out of their Ryan Church, Ryan Ludwick hasn’t hurt them. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention..Dave Duncan Dave Duncan Dave Duncan…
