Mets Chat Room: Salvaging the series.

- 29
All that optimism generated from the Mets’ last West Coast trip has been reduced to avoid the sting of being swept at Shea this week. To their rescue rides Coin Flip Perez.
The weather is hot and muggy now, with the rain expected in a couple of hours. There will be some sitting time today.
From the pregame:
-Ryan Church is activated and Trot Nixon placed on the disabled list with a strained groin.
-Nothing official on Moises Alou’s return. He’s supposed to play in a rehab game tomorrow or the next day with the hope of being ready by the Philadelphia series next weekend.

It's time to forget Alou, he will probably pull another muscle in his rehab game, enough already.
Let's simplfy the Perez nickname – he should just be 'Flipper'.
There's even a cute song that the Shea staff could play for his entrance – think it was from some old TV show….
Sorry, the HHH weather does things to me.
"all that optimism".. you mean the false optimism spewed out by the Mets PR machine that makes some believe the team that has played exactly the same for 13 months, is now suddenly better because they picked a guy who likes to insult people all the time as their new manager. Most teams, even horrible ones have a short burst of energey after a managerial change. But not Minaya's mediocre Mets.
flipper.
that's good.
by the way, why is trot on the dl? i know he is hitting a buck, but at least he can play the OF.
its not like the alternatives are tearing it up.
strained left groin for Nixon.-JD
A seven-pitch first inning for Coin Flip. Care to venture an over-under for the second?-JD
Reyes is dancing off third trying to draw a balk. That's a great offensive strategy.-JD
Yankees always bring out the best in Perez. I think he will be good today.
Its nice to see Ryan Church back. He should be hitting 5th, instead of Delgado.
Nice hustle by Castillo. I have to wonder why he doesn't run down the line like that all the time. Well, I have three more years to ask him.-JD
Looking at the MOAA radar there is a thunderstorm heading towards Shea, could have a rain delay.
I meant NOAA, not MOAA!!!
I'm having an odd TV day – usually there is no coverage here. Today I'm getting the YES and the CW feeds so I can switch between the Yankees/Mets announcers. Strange to have all this information…...
For those scoring at home, that's 33 homers and 106 RBI lifetime for Delgado vs. Yankees.-JD
Real good inning for Perez. He strikes out A-Rod after a 9-pitch at-bat.-JD
John, Please tell Gary Cohen that the Piazza trade was way better than Singleton,Foli, and Jorgensen for Rusty Staub.
Honestly, who didn't expect Perez to pitch a brilliant game today?
The Betemit homer came on Perez's 100th pitch. He deserves to come out for the eighth.-JD
Nope. Pedro Feliciano is in there.-JD
They better hurry, another thunderstorm is headed towards shea but this one could be a direct hit.
For those scoring at home? I always prefer the Coco Bongo parking lot myself…
If I was the Mets I would hirer a witch doctor to brain wash Perez in to thinking that every team he faces for now on is the New York Yankees since the Yankees seem to be the only team Perez pitches well against.
Howie put the game in the book quickly as there are storms all over the North east.
Well, one can hope that this is the new Ollie with a new and less stubborn pitching coach finally kicking in.
I ain't buying it yet but I certainly hope.
a good win to have, considering we dodged the sweep, took the season series, and perez pitched like an allstar, but the fact that we generated 3 runs off of 12 hits isn't that impressive.
Its easy to see how Perez would tune out the complicated Rick Peterson, and embrace the Old fashioned, just trust your stuff, kid approach of new pitching coach Warthen. I am typing with my fingers crossed, of course. Nice win today, A couple of big series coming up before the break. Church is back and Alou on the way, and Mets are still only 31/2 games out. Its a long way from being over.
Nice pitching by "coin flip" today….time is now right to trade that guy….
If in fact Alou makes and through rehab and is activated for the Phillies series, who goes? Philips? Tatis?
Despite Omars denial, i believe Phillps is there to give a message to Delgado. I would bet on Tatis being the odd man out, unless he comes up with a groin pull like Nixon.
Phillips should go, he doesn't really have a spot. Tatis is a better hitter and more versatile. Also, Phillips only upside is his defense at 1st and Tatis was the one who was brought in for defense today.
A bench of Anderson, Easley, Chavez, Castro, and Tatis is good.
Chavez is the main outfield understudy, Anderson/Tatis/Easley can play the OF and 1st, Easley can back up at 2B and SS, and Tatis can play 3rd.
"i believe Phillps is there to give a message to Delgado"
Man, I bet Delgado is just scared senseless worrying about Andy Phillips.
Has anyone heard about possible trades for Matt Holiday, it seems like he would be a good fit and the Rockies might be willing to trade him because they are pretty much out of it.
the announcers were saying they changed a few things about his delivery. but i want to see more than one start to say he turned it around.
it was a good one tho.
Guv,
Well maybe its just a coincidence then that Delgados been crushing the ball since the Phillips pickup. Yeah, thats the ticket. Anybody want to comment on the latest Reyes tantrum?
Yes, Ray drink the BS kool aide form Minaya and his group of new very Yes men in the booth and on SNY. The fact is, even tho all you Willie haters will never admit it, that Delgado has been playing better ball since Willie Randolph benched him for two games. But Willie Randolph can never be creditied with anything right?
Guv, Yeah, its true, Delgado woke up for awhile after his "rest". Unfortunately, he went back to sleep and needed to be prodded again.
