Mets Chat Room: Salvaging the Seattle series.

I suppose when you come right down to it, who is really shocked the Mets lost the first two games of this series?
Afterall, it has been this way all season. Such a tease this team is.
Regarding last night, the issue isn’t Oliver Perez getting beaten, but how he mailed it in.
I don’t know who else they would use, but anybody has to be better.
By the way, I’ve seen the tape of Jerry Manuel’s argument with umpire Brian Runge and must say, MLB needs to do something with the ump.
Runge was quite the punk last night. He not only provoked the argument, but initiated contact. He needs to be suspended, but I wonder if MLB has the stones to do it.

Did someone say Lima Time?
Bite your tongue. Its Armas time. Lets hope it works out better. Last night the question was asked :”Does a manager getting thrown out make a difference.” I said it would be interesting to see what the players said about it. The only quote I saw was from Beltran, who said “thats what a manager is supposed to do.” I think that sums it up pretty well.

John, please give me your comments on their posting on Mets changes.
KING DAVID !!!
Mets are up 8-0 nobody posting tonight. Oh well.
Perez is making his next start against the Yanks according to Manuel. I’m not sure it wouldn’t be better that he gets rocked so we can be done with him for good . . . As an aside, I didn’t understand the Vargas move. JD, might they bring him back up if they decide to take OP outta the rotation? Vargas seems like the most viable alternative.
It would kill me to see Geremi Gonzalez back.
presumably it would kill a lot of people. seeing as how gonzalez died after being struck by lightning this past may, his return to the mound (or earth) would probably signal the arrival of what those of judeo-christian beliefs commonly refer to as the apocalypse.
You’ve been a wonderful audience…please drive safely.
JD – I agree with you on Runge…..will anyone write an article about it? Or is it SOP for MLB to review the tape on every ejection?
Everyone else – can we please rid ourselves of Ollie Perez? What will ultimately be more valuable – a draft pick next season or a trade at the deadline?
the draft pick.
i’d love to see perez pitching for someone else in the second half, but the reality is that we’re not going to get much back for a maddeningly inconsistent half season rental, which is exactly what perez would be.
I’m not sure Alex. Someone will always pay for a chance to catch “lighting in a bottle”....meanwhile, Omar (amongst other GMs) flirts with Kyle Lohse in the offseason and now he is 9-2…..why can’t the Mets ever get lucky like that?
Tiffany,
I’m assuming that is a joke, since I’m pretty sure Germi Gonzalez is recently deceased. I heard he was struck by lightning and died in Venezuela.
On a lighter note, I read Shawn Chacon just asked for a trade. Get on it, Omar!
Is it possible Heilman has his groove back? 1 run in 12 innings in June.
Yes, Chacon would give Omar that body-slam he so desperately deserves. I bet there’s a long line of GMs waiting to pick Chacon up.
Chacon? How deep is the bottom of that barrell?-JD
That was a most unimpressive win last night. 8 runs is nice, but 5 hits and the team basically mailing it in for the last 5 innings was horrendous. I have no more confidence in this team than I had after Tuesday’s game.
Looks like Armas Jr is going to get a start in STL. Muniz will probably go down. If Ollie doesn’t step it up, Armas could take the spot
On the bright side, we don’t have three catchers anymore because we just added Andy Phillips to our roster. Let’s see how that works out.
On the brighter side, Dan Giese and Sidney Ponson are pitching for the Yankees on Friday.
Things are looking up!!! :P
I saw Beltran jawing away in the batter’s box even after his initial protest. If anyone was guilty of baiting it was Beltran. Just watch the tape.
Taylor: Beltran didn’t turn around and get in Runge’s face. He complained about the strike call the right way, looking straight ahead. Runge instigated the whole thing by taking off his mask and cleaning off an already clean home plate. Runge should have told Beltran with his mask on to quiet down and get back in the box. I don’t know what tape you are watching.
Beltran was already back in the box. This was before Runge came out from behind home plate. When I saw him jawboning away I thought to myself, ‘he’s gonna get thrown out any second’. In fact when Runge came out from behind the plate I thought he was actually giving Beltran a chance to shut up so that he didn’t have to throw him out.
Taylor: First off, sorry about the last line in my response to you. It’s against the attitude that JD is trying to foster here, so I apologize. My opinion is that Runge was looking for a fight and tried to make himself bigger than the situation. Before the mask came off, he should have thrown Beltran out. The fact that he went and bumped Manuel I think solidified how out of line Runge was.
I’m proud of Omar. He used to pick crap out of the basball dump in the Winter and give guys minor league deals and an invite to big league camp. Now he goes after anybody rejectd by any big league team and put them right on the 25 man roster. Good job Omar. Vargas, Nixon, Phillips. Thanks Omar.
John, I hope these days off have found you well-rested and recharged…you will need it for tonight’s Lace Beach Party!!!
No sweat. I just re-watched the clip. (you can see it on mlb.com but I think you need to be a subscriber to mlb.tv). What was interesting when I re-watched it is that Beltran pretty much stopped talking after Runge came out in front of the plate and it seemed to me that he was getting ready to hit again when Manuel arrived to incite a situation that I think was just about to end.
The ump was out of line IMO. What Beltran was doing was no different than what you see 2 or 3 times you watch any baseball game (on a well umped night). He took off his mask and approached him. Yes, Beltran shut up and was going to let it go but Manuel was not going to let him get away with the way he arrogantly handled the situation. Unfortunately, it takes a torn ACL to get the umps in any trouble for their actions, otherwise they get to hide behind their masks (if they choose to)!
